The Collaborative Presentation

Being comfortable standing in front of a group of people and speaking to them is difficult for many. So,
were going to have the opportunity to let you practice your presentation skills in front of a friendly
audience. In addition, you will have the opportunity to create and practice utilizing the common
presentation tool PowerPoint (or another visual tool), which so often is misused.
You will create a PowerPoint (or other visual tool) presentation to present to your classmates. The subject
of your presentation will be the communities your groups are researching this semester. You can decide
what is important to share with your classmates based upon what each of you learned and wrote about in
your paper. We will discuss good PowerPoint and presentation skills in class.
You must find a way to connect all of your presentations. Find a common theme or link. You should not
just treat this as 5 individuals presentations, rather it should flow seamlessly as one. Clearly, you cannot
each present everything you have learned about your communities, so you will have to choose what you
think is most important to share.
Brass Tacks:
1. Must be 10 minutes
2. Each group member must speak
3. Must use PowerPoint (or visual tool) effectively
4. Introduce and describe the communities observed
5. Seamlessly connect all of your communities while sharing what you have learned about them
through your research.
You will be evaluated by your classmates as well as by me. You will assessed on the following areas:
1 Content (what is being said and how well you explain your research)
2 Delivery (your presentation skills)
3 Evidence of Preparation
4 Visuals
5 Use of time
As with written argument, oral argument should have an introduction, conclusion, thesis, and use
examples to illustrate points.
