Sometimes called a "full bridge" the H-bridge is so named because it has four
switching elements on the four arms of the H. The switches are turned on in pairs,
either high left and lower right, or lower left and high right, but never both switches
on the same "side" of the bridge, since this would create a short circuit between the
battery plus and battery minus terminals.
This presentation aims to introduce the H-bridge and cover aspects such as
construction, variants, basic operation, and various applications in electrical,
instrumentation and control fields.
Considering the upcoming Tech festival, the presentation will also briefly
touch-on use of H-bridges in robotics especially control of DC motors or stepper
motors using H-bridges, and their interfacing with microcontrollers.
