January 2015

Dear Parents/Guardians:

During the month of January, teachers and students from Owings Mills High are
visiting our feeder middle schools to discuss registration for the upcoming school
year. Through these visits, we have the opportunity to meet with students,
introduce our various programs of study and answer questions regarding our
academic and extracurricular offerings. At the conclusion of these meetings, we
are asking students to take their registration cards home to discuss what they
learned and make important decisions about the courses they will be taking in
their freshman year of high school.
We feel that the freshman year of high school is critical in laying a foundation for
your childs high school and future success. It is not only important for students
to select appropriate core academic courses, but also to carefully select elective
courses and completer programs of interest. We find that such courses and
programs where students are sharing in common interests provide students with
creative outlets in environments that foster long-lasting relationships among
teachers, students, and the school community. It is our desire for every student
to find a sense of belonging and network of support that will serve all students in
achieving his or her highest potential.
Please join us on Thursday, January 29th at 6:00 pm in the library for our
2015 OMHS Academic Planning Night. This event will be among the first
steps in planning for a successful high school experience. Information presented
at this event will allow you to gain a better understanding of graduation
requirements, completer programs and opportunities to take advanced courses.
We will also have administrators, department chairs and counselors available to
answer your questions and help you and your child navigate through the
registration process.
We look forward to seeing all parents and students on January 29th. If you have
any questions about registration, please feel free to call OMHS at 410-887-1700.
