EMPHASIS
This semester course provides students with advanced Internet skills and techniques as
well as a major emphasis on beginning Web page design. Students will explore
resources of the Internet and its tools through the use of e-mail, search engines and
browsers. HTML and Web publishing software will be used to design, create, format and
edit Web pages.
COMPETENCIES
Students in this course will:
Demonstrate a basic knowledge of the Internet and the tools used to access
information
Send and receive e-mail
Design and create web pages using HTML
Use Adobe Dreamweaver and other online WYSIWYG software to create attractive
web pages
Understand and adhere to our Acceptable Use Policy
Create and prepare images to integrate with web site designs
Students will take state mandated competency test near the end of the semester. The
date of the test will be announced as soon as it is selected. There is NO make-up
opportunity for the test if the student is absent for any reason.
Students are required to pay a $5.00 materials fee for the use of the computer lab
equipment.
ASSIGNMENTS: The assignments in this class will be in-class work on the computer and
written assessments.

MAKE-UP AND LATE ASSIGNMENTS


At the beginning of each section of the course, the class will discuss the concepts and
assignments that will be covered during that section. Students work on most
assignments on an individual basis and can progress through them at their own pace.
There will be occasional class periods throughout the semester when the class will work
on learning and reinforcing concepts together.
Because of the participating nature of this class, and the availability of equipment,
make-up work on computer assignments will be allowed only by completing the work in
periodic after school lab times.
Class assignments cannot be done outside the classroom even if the student has
access to the same version of software used in class.
CLASS RULES
1. Disruptive behavior will not be tolerated.
2. Student must have and maintain Internet access and student email access at
school.
3. Students are expected to come to class each period prepared to participate.
4. Class is a time for learning, not for talking. When time is given in class for
working on assignments, students are expected to use that time for that purpose.
5. Attendance is crucial. A penalty of 5 participation points will be deducted for
EVERY absence and 2
participation points for EVERY tardy (excused and unexcused).
6. The published Business Department Citizenship Policy and the school dress code
will be strictly
adhered to.
7. NO FOOD OR DRINKS ARE ALLOWED IN THE CLASSROOM.

The district policy regarding cell phone usage will be adhered to in this course:
The Board of Education recognizes that electronic communication devices such as cell
phones and beepers
are commonly used by parents and their children to communicate with each other.
Hunter High School and
the Granite School District accept no responsibility for the loss of or damage to any
electronic/communication device. These same devices also have the potential of
disrupting the orderly
operation of the school. The Board of Education directs each school to establish rules
allowing the
possession of electronic/communication devices and regulating their use in accordance
with the following
direction:
Hunter High School discourages the use of communication devices for non-instructional
purposes.
Communication devices that are used in violation of school rules will be
confiscated and disciplinary
action will be taken.

1st Offense - Teacher confiscates the device.
2.
2nd Offense Teacher confiscates device and gives to administration - parent
picks up device
from administration after school.
3.
3rd Offense Same as 2nd offense and student is suspended from school.
Office personnel do not deliver messages to students from parents or guardians;
students are not permitted to receive calls during class except in an emergency
situation. (An administrator or counselor will make the determination as to what
constitutes an emergency situation.) Students may not leave the classroom to
answer pager or cell phones. In case of an emergency, parents/guardians should
contact the Main Office (385-646-5360).
To allow students to learn from others by both giving and receiving feedback, and to
assist me in using instructional time as efficiently as possible, I would like to have
students correct one another=s work. Parent/Guardian, by signing this outline below
you are giving your permission for this practice to take place.
