LIZA MARI KRIANI
silent painter of the flowers
Serbian history of the art of modern
times often shows itself as unfair to the artists,
especially women who have not shown pronounced
ambition to highlight their creativity at all costs,
and so to make it more visible to the public on the
current public scene, or some other set of
circumstances did not permit them to do so. Most
often, living in the shadow of
their famous
husbands, fathers and brothers or, at the same time,
due to the modesty of their own character, despite
the undisputed talent and emancipated views, they
risked to have their names and deeds being
unusually ignored, forgotten.
Such is the case with the painter DraginjomDragom Maric in the painting known as Liza
Kriani, who was born at 1905 in Kosjeric
(Western Serbia), and died in 1982. in Belgrade,
where she spent most of her life. In addition to
being involved in painting since her youth, she was
unusually attractive, educated inspiration of the
many significant Yugoslav painters, sculptors and
writers. Within the elite artistic and intellectual
circles of the interwar Belgrade, together with her
famous husband, Pjer Krizanic, painter and
cartoonist, she was remembered as the swivel of the
younger generation of the arriving artists.
In no hurry for her painterly glory, she believed that
during that lurked values put the
light through the facts even those
artists and works that have not
been adequately evaluated by
their contemporaries. Indeed,
after a decade since she died,
that injustice to her began
somewhat to be corrected. A
number of art works from Liza
Kriani can take, in all the local
museum with selected exhibits,
honorable place - a conclusion
from Vera Jovanovic, PhD, art
historian who has published an
extensive monography: Liza
Kriani - living and painting in
2001, and then the book Liza
Kriani: Memories and Letters,
2005.
Although with the favorable references from
the beginning of her artistic work, Liza
Kriani just before the Second World War
decisively officially appeared on the art
scene as an already successful painter of the
figures, landscapes and floral arrangements
in the style of poetic impressionism.
After graduation, at the end of 1924. she went to
Paris to improve French language and getting
more information about the world of painting. With
her in the street to Sen Jacques on Sen Michel lived,
her friend from childhood, Desanka Maksimovic,
later becoming a prominent Serbian poet. She
already knew Pjer Krizanica, and so he became
close with a young Liza. In addition to beauty, he
immediately noticed hers unusual talent for
painting, and kept trying to bring her to the secrets
of the art, although she then attended the College of
Fine Arts at Andre Lota, met a number of ours and
the foreign young painters. Among them is the
Polljak Alen, who had his studio in Montmartre,
where she organized her first exhibition (1925), a
even made her portrait as well.
After her return to Belgrade Liza Maric got married
with Pjer Krizanic, continuing studies and more
intense artistic work. Then she begins to paint very
succesfull portraits, and the best preserved from
that period is My mother with a book, with a few
more pictures, is kept today in the National Museum
in Belgrade. Later she is going abroad again as a
member of the International Women's Art Club, and
staying in London one year (1937) continued her
further improvement. Soon followed travels to Rome
and Bucharest. In addition to
portraits, her favorite motifs are
flowers, nature mort, interiors and
landscapes. Because of her modesty
and great self-criticism, she had her
first exhibition in Belgrade at 1939
at the Eleventh Spring Exhibition of
paintings and sculptor works of the
Yugoslav artists, and since than she
is a member of the Association of
Artists, and exhibited regularly until
the beginning of the Second World
War. At that time, hers and Pjers
spacious apartment became a
famous art "salon", a favorite
meeting point of Belgrade and/
other artists, prominent people of

TIHA SLIKARKA CVEA
Srpska istorija umetnosti novijeg vremena esto
se pokazuje nepravedna prema stvaraocima, naroito
enama koje nisu pokazivale
naglaeniju ambiciju da svoje stvaralatvo istaknu po svaku
cenu, i tako ga uine upadljivije vidljivim na aktuelnoj
javnoj sceni, ili im drugi splet okolnosti to nije dozvoljavao.
Najee, ivei u senci svojih poznatih supruga, oeva i
brae ili, u isti mah, zbog skromnosti svoga karaktera,
uprkos nespornom talentu, obrazovanju i emancipovanim
nazorima, one su rizikovale da im imena i dela budu
preutkivana, zaboravljena. A ne retko, nakon smrti, bivaju
potpuno izostavljana iz znaajnijih umetnikih pregleda,
strunih kritika i enciklopedija. Da je u naoj kulturi vie
sistematinosti, potovanja, sluha i razumevanja za te tihe
keri mraka, umetnika batina bi nam danas bila
bogatija, i korak sa svetom moda bri, pouzdaniji.
Svakako, takav je sluaj i sa Draginjom-Dragom
Mari, u slikarstvu poznatom kao Liza Kriani (19051982), neobino lepom, obrazovanom i nesvakidanje
privlanom inspiratorkom mnogih znaajnih slikara, vajara
i knjievnika. U elitnim umetnikim, i ne samo umetnikim
krugova meuratnog Beograda, zajedno sa svojim
suprugom Pjerom Krianiem, ona je upamena kao stoer
mlae generacije umetnika koji tek dolaze. Ne hrlei za
slavom, ipak, kao da je itavog ivota duboko verovala u
vreme koje provejava dela, i ukazuje na vrednosti,
rasvetljavajui zapostavljenim injenicama i one linosti
kulture, kojima sudbina nije bila naklonjena, te nisu imale
sree da svojevremeno budu adekvatno ocenjene.
I zaista, nakon decenije od njene smrti, ipak se ta
nepravda prema ovoj slikarki, donekle, poela ispravljati.
Izvestan broj slika Lize Kriani bez zazora moe da
zauzme asno mesto u svakom naem muzeju sa probranim
eksponatima poznatih, istakla je dr Vera Jovanovi,
istoriarka umetnosti(Jovanovi: 2001, 8). Kao argument
tom miljenju, objavljuje opsenu monografiju dr Vera
Jovanovi opsenu monografiju Liza Kriani ivot i
slikarstvo, 2001, a potom i knjigu Liza Kriani seanja i
pisma, 2005. Uprkos aktivnom prisustvu u umetnikom
ivotu Beograda, a u tom svetu uticajnog dr Sretena
Maria, njenog brata, kao i supruga Pjera Kriania, iako
sa lepim slikarskim referencama od samih poetaka, Liza
Kriani se tek pred Drugi svetski rat odlunije zvanino
pojavila na srpskoj likovnoj sceni, kao ve uspena slikarka
figura, pejsaa i cvetnih aranmana, u stilu poetskog
impresionizma.
Lizin ivot poeo je u idilinom, malenom
Kosjeriu, Zapadna Srbija, u jednoj poetinoj atmosferi tek
zapoetog prolog veka, u okruenju bujne prirode i topline
domaeg ivota, nadomak vatrometa boja oblinje kolske
bate i zatalasanih brda. Njeni roditelji, Stamenko i Jelena
(Rakovi) Mari, bili su cenjeni uitelji, naitani, imali su
bogat i ist jezik kakvim se govorilo u ovom kraju,
podravali su ljubav prema knjizi, odravajui i ire
intelektualne veze mimo malovarokog ivota. Draga

laavanja datuma sahrane u novinama. Tako je i bilo samotno i tuno na Novom groblju u Beogradu toga, 3. maja
1982. gde je sahranjena je na parceli 34, u grobnici 42, zajedno sa majkom. Samo est osoba je ispratilo Lizu Kriani, a
meu njima Desanka. Skoro neprimetno, lagano, kao kad boje blede, izgubila se... Sklopile se oi koje su nam tumaile
lepotu sveta (Maksimovi: 1983, 3). Bez rei, suptilni treptaji ivota neprolaznih magnovenja, vizuelna muzika na
platnima jedne iste oseajnosti, ipak nee prestati da nas zanose, zrae i znae, i nakon nestanka autorke. Nezaboravni
su susreti sa ovom pesnikinjom cvea njenim najuspenjim slikama, koje je dovode u drutvo izvornih stvaralaca
najplemenitijeg dara, nepresune sveine i lepote sveta.
U stvaralatvu Lize Kriani zapaaju se i slovenska iracionalnost i mediteranska poetska prozranost, to su i
svojstva naroda i umetnosti podneblja kojem pripada (Jovanovi: 2001, 99).
Mada retki, ipak, temeljniji
istoriari nae umetnosti Lizu Kriani svrstavaju u znaajne predstavnike poetskog impresionizma srpskog slikarstva
prve polovine dvadesetog veka. Ostvarena neposrednost, iskrenost i lakoa, odlike su koje ovo slikarstvo, u svakom
pogledu, ine privlanim i na poetku ovog veka..
