Integrating Instructional Technology

John Scully was quoted by saying, The future belongs to those who see possibilities
before they become obvious. We live in changing times and with those changes come a different
outlook at how we use technology in the classroom. Our world is surrounded by technology that
we never thought possible just three or four decades ago. Every school administrator and every
teacher should focus on having a vision of using technology in their teaching. Integrating
Instructional Technology in the lesson plan will only enhance the lesson to be learned and it will
give the students an opportunity to learn in a much deeper level.
There is always a beginning for everything that gets done. On that note, it would be
important to explain in a simple terms, how instructional technology would be integrated in the
classroom. Some of the methods used to integrate instructional technology in the classroom
would be through the use of computing devices. Such would be the use of desk top computers,
lap top computers or hand help devices such as Ipads for example. The use of software and the
Internet is also a good example of how instructional technology can be applied to enhance lesson
plans in the classroom. Thomas Brush states in his article titled Integrating technology into K12 teaching and learning: current knowledge gaps and recommendations for future research that
the use of technology by teachers in the classroom develops the students thinking skills.
Developing childrens knowledge and education should be every teachers goal and vision.
One very important factor to remember is that it is not the technology itself that makes
the difference as an educational tool, it is the teachers ability to use instructional technology that
is going to make a difference on how much better of an educational experience the students have.
The needs of the students can be achieved by the use of computers to the use of interactive
boards (Using Technology to Facilitate Technology). A very productive way of engaging students
is through the use of webcasts and using videos to enhance instruction. The level of involvement

by the student will be much greater because in their minds they are having fun. Providing a fun
lesson plan will always capture the attention of students. Using the Internet and allowing
students to do their online research of any assignment will add to the students involvement and
little do they know but they would be developing important skills necessary for when they enter
the real world work field. Enhancing very important skills like communication skills will become
critical to providing the necessary abilities for their successful future. The use of emails, message
boards and other interacting opportunities with their peers are just another example of how they
will develop important life demanding skills. Another great example of how the use of
technology can be included into lesson plans would be teaching how to make PowerPoint
presentations and using Excel. Making charts for project assignments can be completed by
creating spreadsheets graphs and tables to contrast and compare the information they researched.
The important aspect of integrating technology in the classroom is so that the student can
have the best educational experience possible. Providing a high quality education for every
student can be achieved through the use of technological tools. The mentioned technology tools
are just a few examples of how technology is integrated in the teaching process. In reality, the list
can go on and on and the more the teacher experiences with technology to help with instruction,
the more the teacher will discover the productive possibilities of enhancing his or her teaching
instruction. The point is to never lose vision of the importance of providing the best educational
experience for their students.
