Background and History of the News Organization:
The New York Times was established in 1851. The Times first idea was
to report the news in an objective manner. The Times attracted a
cultured, intellectual readership instead of a mass audience. At the
time The New York Times was reaching out to a niche audience rather
than the general public and world. Once Aldoph Simon Ochs bought
the times in 1896, the formation of The Times really began to change.
Ochs wanted to have full coverage of the news. He made sure that his
reporters were getting full coverage on international news as well as
local/regional. He wanted a factual base paper with no fiction to gain a
notable reputation.
The New York Times starting gaining a reputable name for themselves
when they published news about Titanic in April 1912. They
distributed news, holding back nothing, meaning they really gave full
coverage of the story. They reported all aspects of the story including
reporting all resources that were tangible. A different set of reports
that gained the prestigious reputation that The New York Time has was
the Pentagon Papers. The Times reported the Pentagon Papers, which
were secret government studies. This brought up the conflict of
whether this was legal or not. Luckily, by the First Amendment it
proved that The Times did nothing wrong in reporting the Pentagon
Papers and ended up winning the Pulitzer Prize. From 1972 to 2011
The New York Times won one hundred and six Pulitzer Prizes, which
insures their reputation as one of the greatest news sources.

The New York Times New Boss by Walter Isaacson May 14th, 2014
Dean Baquet is currently the executive editor of The New York
Times. He has a reputation of being both a tough reporter and
also a nice person, He is well respected in this industry because
of his previous knowledge in The New York Times. Isaacson
previously worked with Baquet in different pieces of journalism
and always said that he was a really good person to work with in
times of conflict. Baquest has a very friendly personality, which
the Times seems to need. It was said that The Times is filled
with many ambitious reporters but dont necessarily know how to
get the information out in the correct morale.

How to Write an Editorial by Jason Spingarn-Koff February 5th, 2014
A good editorial consists of a clear position that is based on
fact. Is must be persuasively argued
o Know your bottom line.
o Be concise. There are only 400 words so your must
organize your thoughts.
o Give an opinion. There can be a solution to a problem.
o Do your research. You must have facts to strongly back
up your position.
o Write clearly. An example is better to use than an
example.
o Every writer needs an editor.
o Be prepared for a reaction. You need to be prepared to
defend your position. Respond to peoples letters and
comments towards your work.

FT Digital Media Conference by Mark Thompson March 26th, 2014
This is speech by Mark Thompson, which talks about their
press involvement in press in China. The speech came from
the idea that the Chairman of Bloomberg, Peter Grauer, made
the comment that their company should have kind of
rethought when reporting about China. Chinas government
has been really angry with some of the press that has been
revealed about their government. Even though Chinas
country does not believe in the same kind of journalism that
we believe in, it is The New York Times responsibility to report
all countries the same.
