Chalk Talk in Room 12

January 23, 2015

Lets Recap!
Reading: We completed our Unit on story elements and summarizing. They took their unit
assessment this week, and as a group they did an excellent job! We also spent a few days working on
identifying theme and using evidence to support the theme within different texts. Next week, we will
begin our new unit on making inferences.
S.S.: We began a new unit on Our Countrys History. This chapter will be taught through project
based learning. The students will be completing an ABC Book based on Our Countrys History. They
have been given the guidelines, a grading rubric, and a timeline for due dates. The first thing due will
be this Monday, 1/26. They are to have their word ideas listed on a template I have provided them
with. They have been given some time in class. Whatever is not completed, will be homework.

Lets Recap! Continued

Writing: We spent two days learning about where and how often adverbs and applying these
new adverbs we learned in our writing. We also practiced the correct way to write dialogue using
quotation marks and commas. Thursday and Friday were focused on staying on topic when given
writing prompt. They completed a graphic organizer and then wrote a rough draft and final draft.
Math: We worked hard on solving multiplication, division, and multi-step story problems. We
used different strategies such as pictures, arrays, repeated addition, and repeated subtraction in
order to solve them. We ended the week by writing our own story problems, trading them with a
partner, and finally solving each others story problems. We also took our Math Acuity Friday
Morning.
