IRISH NATURAL GAS

(MY SUMMATIVE)

By: Naomi

HOW IS NATURAL GAS FORMED

Natural gas is a gas that has been buried and over time
has become a gas. When the Dinosaurs and the Plants
died back millions of years ago their remains got buried
under layers of rock and soil. Over time the Earths heat
and pressure under those layers of rock and soil turned
the dead plant and animal matter to Natural Gas and
Oil. It is a fossil fuel because its made from dinosaur
fossils.

WHO USED NATURAL GAS FIRST ?

It is not really known who was first to use natural gas. In
500 BC the Chinese used bamboo pipelines to transport
the gas, they used the gas to boil sea water so it was
drinkable.
In 1785 the British used natural gas extracted from coal
to light homes and streets.
Then 36 years later William hart dug the first successful
oil well in Fredonia, New York. The Fredonia gas light
company was formed, becoming the first American gas
company in the world.

HOW IT IS EXTRACTED

Did you know Natural Gas

produces 127 KWH per MCF

The Natural gas is

burned, The heat
created by the
burning gas turns
the water to hot
steam. The steam
goes through the
turbine and then
the generator
generates
electricity.

PROS AND CONS FOR SOCIETY

Pros

Cons

We use it for:

Human health is at risk

Cooking
Cars
Warm water
Heating
Easy to transport
And even more

when we drill for oil

When extracting the natural

gas it releases gasses that

also put our health at risk
We use it so much we will

find it hard to live without

natural gas

ENVIROMENTAL IMPACT
Animals:
We destroy natural habitats when drilling or disrupt their homes sometimes
they die because of our pollution.

Ozone:
When we burn fossil fuels it releases Carbon Dioxide and Nitrogen Oxide, This
causes acid rain which has bad impact on nature.

The Greenhouse Effect:

The Carbon Dioxide we release is making the earth warmer and warmer. When
the temperature slightly rises a lot of extreme weather events happen.

Nature:
We destroy mountains and nature when we are drilling this is bad for nature
because we destroy homes and the fresh air.
