The participants of the elimination round shall be represented by three (3) students per evel of each school, for both public and private. The top scoring individual in the elimination ound and the first place winners in the team category (grade 6 and 4" year) in the division orate will ‘quality in the Regional Finals. 4 Enclosed herewith are the schedule of contest activities, guidelines and mechanics for the Elimination Round and Division Team Finals, 5. President, MTAP Due to the coming of the Holy Father to the Philippines on January 15 - 19, 2015 the Steering Committee has been obliged to ask DepEd for a Memo to move the Eliminations to January 13 - 14, 2015, Tuesday for the Elementary and Wednesday for the Secondary. However, to quicken the coming out of the change, we agreed with the Publication Office to have only an advisory so it does not require the signature of the Secretary. Due to a General Assembly of all Metrobank Branch Managers, they are not available on February 5 - 6, 2015. So the Steering Committee has asked to have the Division Orals on February 3 - 4, 2015, Tuesday for the Elementary and Wednesday for the Secondary. (MBFI), the Mathematics Teachers Association of the Philippines. (MTAP} and the Department of Education (DepEd) will hold the 2015 Metrobank-MTAP-DepEd Math Challenge from January ‘o March 2018, 2. The overall ebjective of the Competition is ta centribute to the improvement of ‘the quality of Mathematics Education in the Philippines through the following: a, awakening greater interest in Mathematics among elementary pupils and secondary students in both public and private sehools all over the country: encouraging them ta strive for excellence in Mathematics; encouraging mastery of basic mathematical skills; discovering mathematical talents among the pupils/students; developing the values of hardwork, perseverance, honesty, teamwork, and sportsmanship: and providing them with opportunities in Jeadership and cooperative undertaking, 3. The Elimination and Schools Division Level Competition will be participated in by elementary pupils and high school students nationwide. However, only Grade 6 pupils and Fourth Year high school students can participate in the Regional and National Finals. All public and private schools are required to submit the MMC Form Ne. 1 contained in Enclosure No. # (0 the Sehaols Division Offices (SDOs) for registration. Starting this year, the DepEd Schools Division Mathematics Supervisor shall send the MMC Form No. 2 through an ontine portal. A separate Memorandum will be issued to all DepEd Schools Division Mathematics Supervisors on this innovation. paog 4. ‘The Schools Division Mathematics Supervisors shall be in-charge of the Preparation, implementation and documentation of the Elimination and Schools Division Finals Competition including preparation of the program and ficiding of qualified officials Lo serve as judyes, proviers, und hosts/quiemasters. He/She sh alse be responsible for settling all questions, including protests, which may arise in the course of the Competition, or a panel of advisers may be formed by the Schools Division Superintendent. For security and for purpose of maintaining the confidentiality of the test questions, the turn-over of the test materials will be documented and all packages in the different stages of the Competition will be opened simuitangousty at 8:00 a.m. on the date of the competition. For the Regional Finals, the Regional Mathematics Supervisor shall be in- charge of the preparation. implementation and documentation of the Regional Finals, inelucling preparation of program, designation of judges, proctors, eerrectors for the Individual competition and hosts /quizmasters. Representatives from. MTAP will assist in facilitating this stage of the individual and team competitions. He/She will also be responsible for setiling all questions, including protests. which may arise in the course of the Competitions. 6 For the National Finals, the following are the qualifications in determining the ten National Finalists for both individual and team competitions at the elementary and sccandary levels: a. Top scorers for both Categories A and B in National Capital Region (NCR); b. Top scorer in cach geographical area (the rest of Luzon, Visayas. and Mindanao): and c. Remaining five top scorers aeress all regions. F All DepEd officials, including school heads. and Mathematics teachers, are requested to actively campaign and enjoin support for the competitions of all public and private schools in the country {o ensure maximum participation. 8. The participating parties shall shoulder expenses from the Elimination Round to the Regional Level Competition. Participants from private schools shall make necessary arrangements for their expenses with their respective school heads. At the national level, the Metrobank Foundation Inc, [MBFI) shall finance the transportation expenses, accommodation and meal allewance of the national finalists and their coachcs. MBFI shall also provide the awards fer the winners from the Schools Division Finals (medals) to the Regional and National Finals (cash prizes, medals. and trophies}. as well as cash incentives for the coaches af regional and national finalists. 9. The DepEd Divsion Math Supervisors shall then caliste ali MMC Form 1 submissians and accomplish the summary of participants (MIMIC Farm 2) ONLINE indicating the testing centers and the total number af students per grade/year per testing center through an MMC online partal on or before December 12, 2014. Failure to submit may be a ground tor disqualification of the Division In conducting the elimination round, which is scheduled on January 15-16, 2015. f 8 The DepEd Division Math Supervisor shat! be in-charge of the preparation, implementation and documentation of the Elimination Rounds competition. The test materials shall be prepared by MTAP and transmitted through the pre-assigned Metrobank branch for each Division, The pre-assignment and matching will be done try Metrobank Foundation. 20, In case there is. no Metrobank branch in the area, the test materfale shall be delivered directly to the DepEd Division Ofice/s addressed to the Schools Division Superintendent. 11. The concerned Branch Manager or Schoa's Division Superintendent shall tun over the questionnaires personally to the Divisian Math Supervisor an January 24, 2015 for Elementary January 15,2043 fer High Schoo! 12, The Division Math Supervisar shall then turn over the questionnaires to the Testing Center Coordinators onthe dates. A certification on top of the package wihich contains the questionnaires will be signed by the Me(wabenk Branch Manager, Schools Disicion Superintendant, the Division Math Supervicor, and the Testing Center Coorginator to document the said turn over of test questionnaires 13. A Division may have one or more testing: centers depending. on the distance between the schools, the size of the Divisian and the number of participating schools. Example: Suppose Division A has 20 participating schools. Then, there will be 20 x 3 or 60 students/grade level or 2 total of 350 pupils trom Grades 1 to 6 who will take the test in the Center. Only pre- ogistered participants shall be sllawed to take the test. He/She must also endeavor to provide whatever assistance is needed by the MTAP representative. 40. An MTAP representative will assist in faci land team competitions. The MTAP representative shall bring the questionnaires and awarding materials on the date of the contest. A. INDIVIDUAL WRITTEN COMPETITION: (Grade 6 ond 4th Year only) 42, The competition shall be conducted in a close room. Contestants register by sending a copy of their MMC Ferm 2 to the local DepEd Division on er before December 5, 2014. Upon registration on the actual date of the elimination raunds, they present the original copy of MMC Form 1 and contestants shall be assigned thelr testing rooms, Contestants ina testing room must be of the same grace/year level, Students fram the same schoo! must not sit beside each ather nar one behind the other. 4, Contestants sre NOT allowed to bring cellphone, ipad, ipod, camera, caleulator, laptop: computer ‘and other gacgets inside the testing soom. 5. The proctor shall distribute first the scratch papers where the contestants shall solve the problems Contestants write their names in all the scrateh papers 6. Before distributing the test papers, the prector should tell the contestants Ahat they should write only their name and schaol on the test paper. No-one should kegin answering the questions unless the proctar gives the signal to do so, The practer tells the contestants that only the final answers must be written on the test paper. All solutions shall be placed on the scratch papers which should alsa be turned aver to the proctors ‘together with the test paper, it for the test. Thus, their team will autematically be disqualified, SUBSTITUTION IS NOT ALLOWED, 4d, The Division Finals is a wcitten-oral team competition, 15. Each team will be provided with slips of paper for the answer to each question. Befare the first ‘question, they will write their team identification on each slip. 46, There shall be 20 questions: 10 fifteen-second questions warth 2 points each, § thirty-second questions worth 3 points exch and 5 one-minute questions worth 5 points each for a total of 60 points, a. The 1S-second questions are to be answered mentally. There will be no writing anywhere, neither on paper, the table, ete. The team, of two, will work together az one to diseurs their answer to the question. They may start discussing their sclution after the first reading af each question. 6. For the 20-second questions, scratch paper will be provided for each team-contestant, Cantestants may begin solving as soon as they wish, For I-minute questions, 3 copy of the questions will be provided for each team. Serateh papers will be provided, 17, The quizmaster will read each question twice, after which he/she gives the GO signal. The timer starts when the quizmaster gives the GO signal, 18, Each answer will be written. on the official answer slips provided. As soon as the buzzer rings, everybody must ston writing. 19. Proctors wril collect the answer slips and give them to the judges who sort thom inta two sets: those with correct answers and those with wrang answers, 20. One of the judges will announce the teams with the carrect answer, The scorers recard the paints obtained! by each team fer each correct answer. 24.
