Lesson Title: Island Hopping
Numbers of students in class: 17-22
Grade Level: K-5
Location: Gym
Goal of the lesson: For students to be able recognize and perform different exercises and the effects they
have on our body.
Instructional Objectives:
Psychomotor:
Students will be able to perform a variety of exercises that promote health related fitness, including cardio,
flexibility, and muscular strength through a structured fitness activity.
Students will increase their heart rate and improve strength and flexibility.
Cognitive:
Students will be able to recognize the importance of fitness and the effects it has on their body.
Students will be able to identify components of fitness.
Affective:
Students will use respect when instructors and classmates are speaking and/or demonstrating.
Students will participate to the best of their ability and be encouraging of others.

Standard:
2.5 Motor Skill Development All students will utilize safe, efficient, and effective movement to develop and
maintain a healthy, active lifestyle.
Content Statement:

Warm up:
-Jogging in place
- Stretching
-Jumping Jacks
-Hopping over line
-Sliding over line

Introduction/Motivation / Anticipatory Set:


Components of Fitness
CARDIO- exercises that get our hearts pumping.
-MUSCULAR STRENGTH-exercises that we need to have
strong muscles to perform well.
-FLEXIBILITY- exercises that stretch our muscles.

30 minutes

Learning tasks / experiences


-Students will be split into 2 groups
1. Joggers- no passing while jogging/walking
2. Poly Spot Exercisers
- Joggers will be on the outside lane jogging while music
is playing, walking when music is off.
-Exercisers with perform the exercise on their poly spot
while music is playing then will rotate to next poly spot
when music is off.
* When music starts back student will begin new exercise
at the new poly spot and joggers will return to jogging.
- Intervals should be about 30-45 seconds music on and 1530 seconds music off for transitions and walking. Poly
spot exercises consist of:
-Jumping jacks
-Monkey dance
-Plank or push ups
-Arm Circles
-Windmills
-Toe Touch
-Sit and Reach
-Frankensteins
-Crab Kicks
-High Knees
-Jump Rope
ONCE STUDENTS HAVE COMPLETED ALL
STATIONS ROTATE JOGGERS AND EXERCISERS.

A: Sit and reach, toe touch, frankensteins, windmills
Q: Which exercises were cardio?
A: Jogging, Monkey Dance, Jumping Jacks. High knees
Q: Which exercises were for muscular strength/endurance
A: Plank/push-ups, crab kicks
