SENIOR EXIT PROJECT PLAN PROPOSAL

I. SENIOR PROJECT: PAPER

A. In a sentence, state what your working thesis is.
Being a member of a parish and taking part in religious based activities brings people together
and creates a strong connection within the parish and the broader community.
B. In a paragraph, explain how your paper relates to your project.
My expository research paper will relate to my project because my paper will discuss how and why
religion impacts peoples lives. It will also tie in how you can become more involved in church
communities. The paper will explain how religion affects people, how it strengthens a persons values,
and how it gives people a purpose to improve their behavior. The paper will relate to the project
because Vacation Bible School deals with the youth coming to church and learning a little bit about
religious people.

II. SENIOR PROJECT: PROJECT

My Senior Project will entail taking charge of the Ss. Anthony and Philip Parish Vacation Bible School
(VBS). I will organize everything that we will be doing over the three days including creating attendance
certificates, name tags, schedules, and scripts for myself. Also, I need to find bible stories to read to th
kids, group leaders to monitor the sites, small group leaders to lead the kids from station to station, and
craft materials so that the kids will have something to make and take home to their parents. I need to
order beads and bracelet kits, cloth coin pouches, and picture frames. The church will provide the
markers, crayons, glue, scissors, and paper. The students that came over the three days will put on a
performance on the last night, July 31, and sing the songs they learned to family members and
community members. We will also discuss what we did together over the three days. Everything will be
completed and created by August 1st.

what you will need, what you will do, where your project will occur, how much it is
estimated to cost, and an estimated timeline for completing your project components
(include dates).

For VBS, my group site leaders will be Renee Bergeron, Ginger Halverson, Peg McCarthy, and Jen
Tarrell. My mentor will be Delores Eggers. She is the Religious Education Coordinator at Ss. Anthony
and Philip Parish and has been the leader of Vacation Bible School since it started. I plan to interview
Father Jim Murphy in January. VBS will take place at Ss. Anthony and Philip Church. For my project, I
will be in charge of everything that Vacation Bible School includes, such as organizing the crafts,
identifying bible stories to tell, decorating the church, and finding my small group leaders. The kids will
get a name tag to put on their shirts so that everyone knows who is who. The students will also receive
an attendance certificate for participating in the event. The only cost for this project should be the crafts
materials and the church VBS account will pay for that. I need to have everything planned and ready
before July 29, 30, and 31. My bible stories will be found and typed up by July 18 th. On the day before
VBS I will make a schedule based upon what kids will go to what sites at the correct time. The students
will be split up by age range. The closing program will be on July 31 at 8:00pm. This is open to parents
and the community. We will discuss what we learned over the three days we were together. My Senior
Exit Project will require approximately thirty hours, and be completed by August 1 st.

proposed Senior Exit Project is a stretch for you.
The Vacation Bible School program started when I was in third grade and I have been involved
with the program ever since the beginning. After 5th grade, I was a small group leader taking the
groups from site to site. The summer of my 8th grade year, I was the leader of the games
section. I did that for two years. That persuaded me to pursue this for my Senior Exit Project.
This will be a stretch for me because I have never been in charge of the entire VBS program. I
have never had to speak in front of all of the kids and parents nor decide what we were going to
do at the closing program.
