Syllabus

Instructor: Mrs. Luedtke

Objective: This one credit course is an academic and practical study ofspeech development and presentation,
literary analysis, writing and joumal reflection. Focus will be placed on improvement of critical thinking and writing
skills with an emphasis on character development.
Requirements: English

Course Study: The student will read, interpret and critically analyzevarious speech, writing and literary exploration
units throughout the school year. Coursework of study will include the following: speech presentations, short stories,
independent novel reading, drama, essays, poetry writing workshops, literary analysis andjournal reflections.

Independent Assignments
Literary analysis of a novelSophomore Service Learning - All sophomores are required to complete four individual serrice-leaming projects in English
1 0. Expectations include general research, a typed I % page reflection for each project served, proper documentation with adult
verification and an oral presentation near the end of each semester on insights gained and the value qf service. A1l service hours
must be pre-approved. Helping family members or relatives does not qualify as service-learning unless it is for a fundraiser
project (MS Walk, Light the Night, etc.). The actual activity must be performed during the 2014-2015 academic year.
