LIB505 WEEK 7 COLLECTION MAPPING PROJECT NEW RESOURCES

While weeding section 363 in our elementary school library, I realized how outdated
some of our books were. I also found that we only had video cassette tapes on these topics. I
found some wonderful books and DVDs to add to the collection, but found that a subscription to
a database that can be accessed anywhere with a school-wide login would be very beneficial to
the students and teachers at our school in all areas of the curriculum. With the generous $1,500
to $2,000 budget, I was able to purchase 26 books, 3 DVDs, and a subscription to the California
Learns Portal for our entire staff and 4th 6th grade students. My breakdown is as follows:
Books:

$616.07

DVDs:

$114.89

10% for shipping:

$ 73.10

CA Learns Portal:

$1,043.40 (252 students X $2.95 per student + $300 school fee)

GRAND TOTAL:

$1,847.46

Coal, oil and natural gas are the most important fossil fuels. But what are they used for, how do
we find them and what can we do to preserve our limited supplies? Students will find the
answers to these questions and more in Fossil Fuels as they explore these nonrenewable
resources of Earth. A fun, hands-on investigation demonstrates a creative alternative to using
fossil fuels in the creation of plastic and a visit to an oil platform showcases how this valuable
