Research Project: Brochure

During the 3rd nine weeks, each student will be responsible for researching an
individual involved in social reform. You will be given a list of suggestions or you
may select an individual on your own, but it must be approved by your teacher. You
may research this individual by using books and internet sources. You will be
required to use and cite at least ONE book source and at least ONE internet source.
You may need more than 2 sources to gather all of the needed information. You will
create a brochure to present the research.

Project due date: Tuesday, February 24, 2015

Early Submission (5 pts extra credit): Friday, February 20, 2015

The following pieces of information are required to be on the brochure and must be
in a certain location. Please see the example outline provided.
Cover
Name of the social reformer
Picture of social reformer (in black and white or color)
Birth date and death date (if applicable)
Location of birth
Death date (if applicable)
What cause they were part of reforming
Inside Flap
A description (paragraphs response) of if the cause the individual supported achieved
its goal and how the work is still continued today (if applicable)
Inside Pg 1
A explanation of what caused the individual to become interested in reform of that
cause (paragraphs response)
A list of 2-4 struggles the individual faced while being involved in reform (bullet list)
Inside Pg 2
A description of the time period and location that the social reformer lived in
Include background information about the cause and its history in the time period and
area that the reformed lived in, how this information was important in relationship to
the cause and reformer
This might be a multiple paragraph answer and should name the location and time
period in which the reformer lived and worked to make changes happen

Choose a song and write a paragraph explanation of how that song would represent the
reformer. You must list the title and singer of the song. Make sure that you reference
events, cause, or motives in the reformers life in your explanation of why that song
should represent that person.

Cite your sources in MLA format (at least ONE book source and at least ONE internet
source)
List your name, class period, and create a logo for yourself to represent you. The logo
should be placed above your name and class period.

Layout

Make sure that you write in complete sentences, unless you are creating a
bullet point list
You must use at least 4 different colors on the brochure

Your brochure can be created on the computer and printed out or turned in
electronically or you can create your brochure by hand but it must be on a
white computer paper 8 X 11
Use correct grammar and write your research information in your own words
(even if you cite it)
Must have appropriate and correct headings for each section (see example)
