Continuous Improvement Plan!

S4g!

1. What would I do first?!

!
Assess my current reality. https://apps2.dpi.wi.gov/sdpr/districtreport.action Using the Wisconsin School District Performance Report to look
over all subject matter and trends within the school. I would Look over the
subject matter according to group trends. A group would consist of incoming
sixth grade data and how that data changed as that class graduated eighth
grade. Meeting with department supervisors to try to understand what changes
may have recently been made and what affect they may have had on the data.
Is there a recent initiative that is currently in place and what the timeline is for its
completion/reevaluation. For example, the past two years data relating to this
years freshman class shows that there was a 4% growth from their seventh
grade year to their eighth grade year. (Cut scores were changed in 2011-2012)
The previous math curriculum (Connected Math) supported growth to this group
of students. Current math curriculum has been changed (Glencoe) for the
upcoming year. I would need to understand the professional development plan
for this new curriculum roll out and initiate conversation with my math

instructional staff to see if that training is giving them what they need. The data
for the first year may not be reliable in the sense that the first time through may
be a bit bumpy. What is past practice for school wide screening, AIMS, MAPS.
What is the process for reaction to that data and how has it been incorporated
within the master schedule.!

2. Team: !
Reaching out to the previous years team leaders would be one of the first order
of business to establish respect for what they do and what connection they have
with the data for the building. Assistant principal, guidance, PTO representative,
curriculum director.!

!
!

3. Vision!
Vision: Relationships, Engagement, Learning!
Mission: Make it matter!!

Part of my initial discussion with the new team would have to be if they could
even state the school vision/mission statements. If not, that tells me something.
If they can, what practices do they have in place to establish relationships with
students, what are they doing to engage them in their learning, how do they know
learning is occurring. What has been an area of interest that they would like to
explore to improve their performance related to the vision. The Making it matter
idea. Come up with a plan to make it happen for them.!

!
!

4. Analyze Data:!
Sticking with the mathematics theme: Aims web is the current screener for math
and literacy and that data comes in within the first two weeks of the school year.
Current AIMS data shows several students operating below benchmark on both
computation and application. We need to focus on computation initially and help
those students in a RTI setting most likely in a Tier 3 setting. What are we doing
in the tier 3 setting and how will that support what is happening in the core
instruction and the tier 2 opportunities. We also would be looking at the literacy
screener numbers and assessing the current plan of action. Professional
development plans would be made for staff to work to improve their intervention/
core instruction where needed.!

5. How will I address the strengths and opportunities?!

What is our current reality? Where do we want to go? HOW DO WE GET
THERE? This is it, along with what do we want them to learn? How will we know
that they learned it? What are we going to do if they do not? These are the
directives that will drive our professional development as well as out celebrations.!

!
!

6. How will I get ownership from the entire building?!

Entire building?? I believe as I assess current realities without passing
judgement, incremental change initiated with the team leaders and adjusting as
relationships with staff continue to grow. I need to be willing to educate myself
before expecting my staff to believe what I say. Show them that I am committed
and I believe they can be too.!

!
!
!

7. How will I make it a living, breathing document?!

The learning curve for year one will be beyond steep. Making a document that
follows the idea of where we want to be and who are we going to get there. As
we learn, improvements and changes to our current situation will change. We
will need to react to those changes and goals may be reached sooner or later
than expected.
