Nielson Holdings N.V. is an American market research company located in New York,
New York founded by Arthur C. Nielson in 1923 with its purpose to sell engineering surveys. In
fact, it was one of the first companies to offer market research to companies. During the 30s,
Nielsons company moved to the radio stations, surveying which stations were listened to the
most. In the 50s, they ventured to the televisions business and took note of how many people
tuned in to the same station and they also recorded the time of day they did it. It is active in
about 100 countries and employs a little over 400,000 people. Overall, Nielson is a company that
monitors and measures what consumers may watch and buy such as: TV, computers, radios, and
other electronic devices. In 2006, Nielsen, formerly known as Valcon Acquisition Holdings BV,
was formed by investment funds as a subsidiary of Valcon. In January 2011, the company was
converted into Nielsen Holdings NV, a Dutch public company with limited liability. Just over
one-half

Nielsen's
revenue
is
generated
in
the
United

joining Nielsen in 1997, and working in three different continents holding a tremendous
