February is the month of love, Valentines and romance. So

what could be more perfect than having a "Rat Pack" singer
in an Italian restaurant in February? (Those of us of a certain age can probably recall the names of the entire Rat
Pack group and we probably know all the songs, too.)

POLICY: Check-in for the luncheon will not start until 11:00 AM.

Larry Johnson is the entertainer who sings the songs from

that era and he will perform for us at the February luncheon at Maggiano's. He will keep you tapping your feet and
he might even have you singing along with him. You can
see Larry perform in several restaurants in the Plano/Frisco
area. Maybe you've already seen him perform; if not,
you're in for a treat. So be sure to wear your Valentine red
and be prepared to eat good food and have a great time.

The deadline for reservation and cancellations is Thursday,

February 5th, at 9:00 PM. If you make a reservation and do not
cancel before the deadline, you are responsible for the cost, even if you
do not attend the luncheon. PNC will be charged for each empty place
setting.
Please have your check made out to Prestonwood Newcomers or PNC
prior to arrival (we are unable to accept cash) to speed up getting
your name tag.

VOLUNTEERS
Once again, I am counting on the generosity of you all to help with our annual stuffed animal collection.
This is done every year at our February meeting. These donations will be given to the Collin County
Children's Advocacy Center in Plano.
Last year, we were very fortunate to collect 96 stuffed animals. They were very happily received by the
center and made many children happy. It would really be great if we could top that number and
perhaps collect 100 animals this year.
Please consider helping with this worthwhile project. As many of you know, Kohl's has a wonderful program called Kohl's Cares. Since its inception in 2000, they have donated $231 million dollars to hospitals, scholarships, and many programs for children. They sell stuffed animals and books for $5 each,
and this money goes to the Kohl's Cares projects. You might consider purchasing your donation from
Kohl's. This way, you would be helping children twice. Thanks again for your help.

What a terrific day we had at Lynne Warshauer's lovely home. She delighted us with a fabulous luncheon including homemade cake and cookies (yum). We then played one of our favorite games-----Canasta. It was especially nice for me since I finally got some money back. No. 1 was Marianne Sullivan; No. 2 was yours truly; No.
3 was our sub, Carole Kurz and No. 4 was Dianne Ovens. Our lovely hostess, Lynne, got the Booby. She was
happy she got some money back.
Our next game will be at Sally Richardson's home on Thursday, February 5th at Noon. Please call Sally with the
name of your sub, if you cannot attend.

Now that the winter doldrums are upon us, it's time to get out and about and meet with friends. Don't forget to
put Feb. 19 on the calendar for our euchre' group. Those hot cards will help to keep our hands busy
and warm! We will meet at Willow Bend Mall at 12:30pm, and as usual, if you cannot attend, please let

Well, the holidays are over, the parties are over and were back to the same-old, same-old. But with the 4th

friendship. And oh-yes, we play euchre too!
Our next get-together will be at the Food Court at Willowbend Mall on Wednesday, February 25 th, 2015. As
always, if you cant make it, please let me know who will be subbing for you. Until then, may the cards be with

UPCOMING ACTIVITIES (contd)

BOOK CLUB
Please join us as Sandy Spett reviews My Beloved World by Sonia Sotomayor on February 23rd, 2015. We always meet
on the 4th Monday of the month at Highland Springs (SE corner of Frankford and Coit).
The first Hispanic and third woman appointed to the United States Supreme Court, Sonia Sotomayor has become an
instant American icon. Now, with a candor and intimacy never undertaken by a sitting Justice, she recounts her life from a
Bronx housing project to the federal bench, a journey that offers an inspiring testament to her own extraordinary determination and the power of believing in oneself.

January luncheon
Gloria Campos was a charming and lovely speaker, as well as very interesting. Below is a photo of Gloria with
some of our members:

L to R: Carole Cohen, Lois Kohn, Gloria Campos, Sandy Lambert, Carol Frye, Pat
Richards, and Fran Schneider. Kudos to Carol Frye who arranged for Gloria to
speak to us after the planned speaker had an emergency. Gloria seemed like an
old friend and was absolutely delightful.

sunshine news

Our charming newsletter editor, Marilyn Voyles, had foot surgery and the report from her doctor is that she is healing well but still needs to wear the fancy post operation shoe.
Every winter I say the same thing, I thought I moved to Dallas from Toledo, Ohio to get out of the cold weather
which I truly abhor, then I receive an e-mail from Marcia Kotick saying she loves the cold weather as she finds it so
invigorating and it gives her a chance to wear her winter sweaters. Let's have some fun, those ladies who like the
cold weather e-mail me telling me they like it and those who are like me and dislike it also tell me so. Next month I
will give you the results. Sounds like fun doesn't it?
One thing this weather does is give me lots of time to knit. I have been busy knitting hats and scarves for the
homeless. If there is anyone who would like to help with this project let me know and I will see that you get the
yarn.
Prestonwood Newcomers means friendship. We are all friends and care about each other and are interested in your
happenings. Should your name have been here? I am always interested in receiving your e-mail.

PRESIDENTS MESSAGE

BOARD MEETING

We wish everyone a very healthy and happy New

Year. Now it is time to begin a new year with wonderful programs, good food and great friends. Wasn't this
past program wonderful? It was so good to see Gloria
Campos in person after she retired from Channel 8.

Friday, February 6th at 10:00 AM

Marilyn Voyles home at
712 January Drive
Plano 75025

Soon we will be signing up for the 2015-2016

offices. Please start thinking what you would like to do
to make the coming year a real success. Most important is membership. Without them, the club can't continue as it is. We need to reach out to our friends and
neighbors and bring them to a luncheon and program.

Any board member unable to attend,

please contact Sandy Lambert at
972-931-6229 or sjlamb2@aol.com
AND

February is Teddy Bear month. Kohl's has some adorable animals. Not only will you be donating to the Childrens Advocacy Center here in Plano, Kohl's also has a
charity that the money from the sale goes to. Lets fill
up an entire car, front, back and trunk. I know we can
do it.

Please let Marilyn at 972-517-9009 know by

Thursday, February 5th, at 9:00 PM
if you cannot attend.

By the time we see each other in February, the daffodils will be blooming, signaling a new season. Take
time to enjoy them.
