b. Extensor Zones
Zone I is at the level of the distal interphalangeal joint.
Zone II is the area over the middle phalanx.
Zone III is the area of the proximal interphalangeal joint.
Zone IV includes the area over the proximal phalanx.
Zone V includes the area at the metacarpophalangeal joint.
Zone VI is the area of the metacarpals of the fingers.
Zone VII is the area of the wrist under the dorsal carpal ligament (extensor retinaculum).
Zone VIII is the area of the distal forearm, proximal to the extensor retinaculum (dorsal carpal
ligament)..

= Distal to Flexor Digitorum Superficial insertion


= Flexor Digitorum Superficial insertion to distal palmar crease
= Palmar
= Carpal tunel
= Wrist to forearm
