Contest Rules and Regulations

I: General
The contest will take part in three roundsa Team Round, a Relay Round, and a
Sprint Round.
Teams must consist of six (6) students, all from the same school. All students
may participate in the Sprint Round, regardless of whether they are on a team or
not.
Teams may bring alternates, and any extra students will be placed with other
alternates to form teams of six students.
The contest will start with the Team Round, followed by two Relay Rounds. The
teams will then proceed to the auditorium, where the Sprint Round will take place.
This concludes the competition.
Calculators are not permitted for any part of this contest.
II: Team Round
The Team Round lasts for twenty (20) minutes.
The Team Round consists of ten (10) problems that the students are expected to
solve together.
Students may use any amount of scratch paper for their work, but their answers
must appear on the final answer sheet before time is called.
Teams are responsible for keeping their own time. Warnings will be issued at 5
minutes and at 1 minute remaining.
Each problem on the Team Round is worth 9 points.

III: Relay Round

There are a total of two relay rounds, each lasting 6 minutes.
Students will be required to break up into three sub-teams of two students each.
Within each pair, students must decide who will be in position 1, and who will be
in position 2. Students will be seated so that position 2 is directly behind position
1.
Students in position 1 will be provided a packet of slips in order to pass answers
back. Students in position 2 will be provided with a packet of answer slips, on
which they will submit an answer to the problem.

Students will receive a question based on their position in the team. When the
signal is given, they will start working on the problems.
The student in position 2 will receive a question that will require the answer to the
question that the student in position 1 has.
At any time during the relay, the student in position 1 may write an answer to
their problem on the slip and pass the slip to their teammate in position 2.
Students may only pass back numbers. Symbols, words, or any other form of
communication is not permitted on the slip. Students may underline their
numbers to aid in orientation.
Only the student in position 1 is permitted to pass slips.
There is no limit to the number of slips a student may pass.
Students in position 2 will have two opportunities to submit answersone at 3
minutes, and one at 6 minutes.
Students in position 2 may decline to submit answers when prompted.
If a sub-team submits answers at both 3 minutes and at 6 minutes, only the answer
submitted at 6 minutes will be considered for score. The 3-minute answer will
not be counted (even if it is identical to the 6-minute answer.) In this way, each
sub-team may only submit one answer per round.
A correct answer received at 3 minutes will be worth 5 points. A correct answer
received at 6 minutes will be worth 3 points.

Ties in the individual scores will be broken by tiebreaker problems during the
awards ceremony.

Students may only submit one answer to the tiebreaker problem. Students with
correct answers will be ranked based on the time in which they solved the
