PROCESS DESCRIPTION
I come from a South American background, so I knew I wanted to do an interest
related to South American. My parents use to tell me jokes about Simon Bolivar, so I
thought, Why not look more into this famous character. We went to Wilson library as a
group, but I wasnt able to find any primary sources mostly because Simon Bolivar and
the South American revolution occurred in the 18th century. Finding Primary sources has
really been a struggle for me but I was able to grab hold on some of his speeches. History
Friday was really helpful for me because I was able to do my research using advance
databases, but again could not find many primary sources. I went to my local library and I
was able to score a biography, but almost all of my sources were online data.
Simon Bolivar, known as The Liberator, attempted to unify Latin America into
one great confederation. Simon Bolivar, born in Caracas, Venezuela, became involved
with The Enlightenment Era. Inspired by George Washington, Bolivar fought against
Spanish Rule. Simon became the leader of the Venezuelan resistance and used his
intellectuality as a key skill to overpower Joseph Bonaparte King of Spain. We can see
Simon Bolivar's legacy all over the world, making him one of the most memorable
military leaders of all time.
I started this project with the mentality of just getting an A but I am finishing with
the eagerness to learn more about not only Simon Bolivar, but other leaders that helped
spark modern day. Before this project, I only had interest in the Simon Bolivar jokes,
but as I conclude my project my interest has expanded beyond jokes to actually making a
website about him strongly emphasizing his leadership and legacy. I believe I put my
presentation out well, trying to procrastinate as little as possible, working on it every

weekend, having my sources well organized, using my resources, and I am fortunate to be

able to have profound conversation with my parents about my topic.
Simon Bolivar, a South American revolutionist used intellectual skill to help win a
unbeatable war. His speeches to his troops demonstrated his ability to persuade others,
making the war not only about land but also of respect and dignity. He demonstrated his
skills not only before battle but during battle using cautious tactics to prevent as many
casualties as possible. Simon Bolivar is important in history because he helped outline
countries in South America, control power from an overpowered Spain, and so we could
make History Day project after him.
