MODERN REFORMERS/PEACEMAKERS

-Who can be involved: Either work with ONE partner or alone. No groups of three
or more, no exceptions. YOU CAN ONLY PARTNER UP WITH PEOPLE IN YOUR
CLASS PERIOD.
-When will this be due: MONDAY, MARCH 2ND is the due date for EVERYONE;
presentations will be that week.
-What needs to be created: 1) Visual Aid (poster) 2) Transcript of Presentation 3)
List of sources 3) 5 minute maximum presentation
-What is the objective: Students are to research a modern-day
reformer/peacemaker. That person can be from the 20 th to 21st century. My
suggestion is you choose from the later years of the 20 th century until today. This
reformer/peacemaker can be from ANY country and ANY age; they can be living or
dead. Students must select an individual who exhibits similar
ideologies/methodologies/causes/backgrounds as the individuals covered
in the unit (Gandhi, Mandela, Yousafzai and Roosevelt). Students must
then provide information on that persons background (relevant info),
their ideologies, their methods to create change, effectiveness as leaders
and causes. Students may also discuss societys response to those
reformers/peacemakers. It is essential that the student makes clear and
concrete connections between the reformer of their choice and at least
THREE of the individuals we discussed in the unit. Saying vague and
surface level statements like, They were both discriminated is NOT
ACCEPTABLE. You must be detailed and explicit. 65 POINT TOTAL.
-Item Breakdown:
-Poster: Poster can be a three-fold or a standard poster. It must state the
name of the person, have images of the person (and other relevant images to the
person), identify where/when the person is from, at least one quote and must be
eye-catching and creative. A poster that is blank with just a name written on it and
one picture will not be accepted. Poster must also be readable.
-Transcript of Presentation: You will only have five minutes to present, but
you will have to turn in a transcript of your presentation. Transcripts are a written
out outline of what you will discuss. When I look at the transcript, I need to see all
materials covered in the objective above. Effort here will be determined by how
detailed you are and whether or not you just copied and pasted. This must be
printed out and physically handed to the teacher upon presentation.
-List of Sources: This can be on the same sheet as your transcripts. You
need at least 4 online sources. I WILL NOT ACCEPT PROJECTS WITH ONE
SOURCE/DO NOT HAVE THEIR LIST OF SOURCES.

-Presentation: 5 minutes MAXIMUM presentation. Presentation must be

practiced, clear and concise. This should NOT be the first time you present. Your
presentations should concentrate on the objectives above. Be prepared for
questions from the teacher or your fellow classmates. BE WELL
RESEARCHED/READ FOR YOUR INDIVIDUAL.
