andcontrolsystemalongwithanoilfilteringequipmentknownastheOilyWaterSeparator(OWS)

Thisunitconsistsofcatchplateswhichareinsideacoarseseparatingcompartmentandanoil
collectingchamber.

Heretheoilhavingadensitywhichislowerthanthatofthewater,whichmakestheformerrise

intotheoilcollectingcompartmentandtherestofthenonflowingoilmixturesettledownintofine
settlingcompartmentafterpassingbetweenthecatchplates.
Afteraperiodoftimemoreoilwillseparateandcollectintheoilcollectingchamber.Theoil
contentofwaterwhichpassesthroughthisunitisaround100partspermillionofoil.
Acontrolvalve(pneumaticorelectronic)releasestheseparatedoilintothedesignatedOWS
sludgetank.
Heatermaybeincorporatedinthisunitforsmoothflowandseparationofoilandwater.

Firststagehelpsinremovingsomephysicalimpuritiestoachievefinefiltrationinthelaterstage.

TheFilterunit
Thisisaseparateunitwhoseinputcomesfromthedischargeofthefirstunit.
Thisunitconsistsofthreestagesfilterstage,coalescerstageandcollectingchamber.

Theimpuritiesandparticlesareseparatedbythefilterandaresettledatthebottomforremoval.
Insecondstage,coalescerinducescoalescenceprocessinwhichoildropletsarejoinedto
increasethesizebybreakingdownthesurfacetensionbetweenoildropletsinthemixture.
Theselargeoilmoleculesriseabovethemixtureinthecollectingchamberandareremoved
whenrequired.
Theoutputfromthisunitshouldbelessthan15ppmtofulfillegaldischargecriteria.

Thisunitfunctionstogetherintwopartsmonitoringandcontrolling.
TheppmofoiliscontinuouslymonitoredbyOilContentMonitor(OCM)iftheppmishighitwill
givealarmandfeeddatatothecontrolunit.
ThecontrolunitcontinuouslymonitorstheoutputsignalofOCMandifalarmarises,itwillnot
allowtheoilywatertogooverboardbymeansofoperating3waysolenoidvalve.
Therearenormally3solenoidvalvescommandedbycontrolunit.Thesearelocatedinthefirst
unitoilcollectingchamber,secondunitoilcollectingchamberandoneindischargesideofthe
oilywaterseparatorwhichisa3wayvalve.
The3wayvalveinletisfromtheOWSdischarge,whereoneoutletistooverboardandsecond
outletistoOWSsludgetank.
WhenOCMgivesalarm,3wayvalvedischargesoilymixtureinthesludgetank.

hittingit.Whenoilorsedimenttravelsbetweenthelightandthephotosensor,itreduces
theamountoflighthittingthesensorandcausesthemonitortodisplayaPPMof
contaminateinthewater.OntheOWSsIhaveseen,themanufactureprovidesplastic
testtripsthathavebeengaugedtosimulateoilywatercontamination.Thistesttripis
placedbetweenthelightandthephotosensorthroughaninlineaccesspoint.The
monitorshoulddisplaythepredeterminedreadingwhenthistestisconducted.Shipsalso
