Preparing for Lesson Development

1. What does your pre-assessment observation indicate about your
students needs and current performance and educational needs?
Upon pre-assessment the student's are having trouble recounting a story and
haven't been paying attention to the reading texts. They are having a hard
time being descriptive because of their lack of attention during story time.
2. How will you design the lesson to meet the needs of all learners in
your classroom? My lesson plan will engage all the students with their own
projects. I will be able to circulate among the students who are not able to
grasping the concepts and address their problems head on and appropriately.
They will be able share their opinions and also make up another ending to
their own story.
Lesson Plan Development
Lesson Title: Black Dog
Common Core and/or State Standard: Reading Standards for Informational Text
Integration of Knowledge and Ideas
7. Use information gained from illustrations (e.g., maps, photographs) and the words in a
text to demonstrate
understanding of the text (e.g., where, when, why, and how key events occur.)
Technology Content Standard 3
The student will apply digital tools and skills with creativity and innovation to express
his/herself, construct knowledge and develop products and processes.
Rationale
Digital tools can support creative and innovative expression, which is increasingly necessary
in our changing world. The use of these tools can also facilitate the realization and
fulfillment
of one's talents and interests. The education community has the responsibility to provide
access to the new avenues for creation and require nuanced understandings of digital
citizenship and ownership.

Lesson Objective: The student will be

able to make a story map based on the
story we read in class and their own
ending to the story.

Assessment of Learning: The students

assessment will be based off of two things:
Applying parts of a story to a story map and
making up their own ending to the story and
putting it into a story map( 1-4 rubric
attached)

Assessment of Learning: The student

will be assessed by telling the story
behind their story maps and their own
ending they would have liked to see
happen. (1-4 rubric attached)
Based on the lesson objectives, select an appropriate teaching model

Lesson Objective: The student will be
able to incorporate technology and
tell their story to the class.

Anticipatory Set1. I want the students to relate this to life by

having them know how that there's nothing wrong
with having an imagination.
They need to know that paying attention is
important and they should do so in the story.

Objective
2. I will read Black Dog (2011)
By: Levi Pinfold and ask open ended questions
about the book but before you do that, have them
brainstorm on the board why this is an important
book and about what we can use it for. (15
minutes)
Teacher Input
3.Key concepts to go over on blackboard.
Stories aren't always real and can be fun too
Everything around us can be mistaken
Using your imagination is fine
Some people have pets so make this project your
own
(5 minutes)
Check for Understanding
4. Ask students to explain why we're doing a
lesson on this
To pay attention in the stories and apply it to
pictures
To orally be able to discuss their point of view (ask
what point of view even is)
To construct pictures to go with key concepts (5
minutes)
Guided Practice
5.Have the student go over directions with you.(5
minutes)
They need to draw a story map of the story and
where Hope and the black dog went.
Then they need to make a picture of what their

Instead of having the students explain to the class,
they will log on to Edmodo.com and follow the
directions on the board
1. use student section and put in the passcode
2. fill out their ending to the story and share it and
as a group we will look at the the endings and
guess who wrote it
Draw this on the board
Independent Practice
6.Instruct the students that we will be making a
story map and refresh their memories about what
a story map is.
Then they need to draw a picture of their own
ending to the story and be able to share it.
Directions:
You can brainstorm at your pod but this is an
individual project.
When you get your handout please
A. Put your name on the paper
B. Draw your picture with lots of color.

GIve them 20 minutes to complete their drawings
Give a 10 minute warning and a 5 minute
warning
After you guess the story, then share their picture!

Evidence of Lesson Effectiveness/Student Learning: Students will show signs of

learning by completing their story map and orally share their stories with the class.

Reflection and Recommendations for Next Time: Use a different story that's
easier, depending on the classroom placements.
