The Working Parents Act responds to real

challenges facing Minnesota Parents,

Families and Workers
Earned Sick and Safe Leave

Duluth resident Tiffany McDonald fell behind on well-child doctor visits as a result of not having
earned sick days to use. At one point, I was working three part-time jobs and none offered sick
time. It was so hard to decide between getting paid and my kids health.

Paid Family Leave

Heidi Kult has found herself in a caregiver role multiple times over the past twenty years, most
recently for her 88-year old mother. She has been able to piece together paid time off due to the
generosity of a co-worker donation pool, but as her familys sole breadwinner, she has feared for her
job and believes its unfortunate that we have to rely on the charity of our co-workers to take care
of our loved ones when they are seriously ill.
-Heidi Kult, Saint Paul

Fair Scheduling

The new on-call policy from our company has cut our hours and made life incredibly difficult for
families like mine at the airport. When we dont know until the day of whether we will work, it
throws our families into chaos. We are fighting for our union to change this, and airport workers are
proud to support this campaign to win these basic rights for workers across the state.

Wage Theft

When the home care agency I worked for closed in 2013, I was owed nearly $2,000 for hours that
I had completed, money that I never have received. This was an incredible hardship for myself and
the hundreds of other workers who had to experience this, with the total amount equaling
$1.4 million, and no one should have to go through what we went through.
