Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2011 for On-premises is
licensed using a Server/CAL model. You license the
server software through the Server license and access
to the server software through Client Access Licenses
(CALs). Customers may choose either User CALs or
Device CALs or a mixture of both. An External
Connector license is available for licensing access to
the server software by external users.

ESS CAL

The ESS CAL addresses the licensing requirements for light user scenarios of Microsoft
Dynamics CRM 2011. This CAL involves limited CRM API access with helpdesk applications &
portals using public CRM APIs (access using Microsoft Dynamics CRM clients is not allowed).

Limited CAL

The Limited CAL addresses the licensing requirements of information workers who rely on
familiar office applications combined with Microsoft Dynamics CRM clients. Users have
privileges to manage work, assign and share data with others in the organization, and access
powerful reporting capabilities within the Microsoft Dynamics CRM clients. This CAL supports
limited CRM Client access, full read access, and limited write access to Microsoft Dynamics
CRM functionality.

Full CAL

The Full CAL delivers all read-write capabilities of Microsoft Dynamics CRM to manage
relationships and end-to-end processes using Dynamics CRM clients. Users have complete
control over all information stored within a CRM system managed through the security roles.
Users also have ability to administer and customize CRM, create and update business reports
and analytic dashboards, and implement and automate business workflows and processes.
