Motown Madness 2015

Small Group Curriculum

February 27 March 1, 2015
Main theme is NO MORE APATHY.
7 for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control. 8 Therefore do not
be ashamed of the testimony about our Lord, nor of me his prisoner, but share in suffering for
the gospel by the power of God, 9 who saved us and called us to a holy calling, not because of
our works but because of his own purpose and grace 2 Timothy 1:7-9
Friday night
No more apathy about the gospel (Contagious)
Sermon Text: John 21:15-25

What is your understanding of what Christianity is about?

What does it mean to be a Christian?

2 Corinthians 5:17
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the
new has come.

Are there things weve added to Christianity? What about taken away from it?

Matthew 7:21-23
Not everyone who says to me, Lord, Lord, will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who
does the will of my Father who is in heaven. On that day many will say to me, Lord, Lord, did
we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works
in your name? And then will I declare to them, I never knew you; depart from me, you workers
of lawlessness.

Are there areas in your life for which you need forgiveness?

Romans 3:23
For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, ...
What does it mean to accept the forgiveness of God? Have you done that?
Are there distractions in your life that are coming before your relationship with God?

Romans 12:1
I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living
sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship.

How might you address those things?

Conclude by praying for clear understanding.

Saturday morning
No more apathy about sin (Outrageous)
Sermon Text: Colossians 3:1-17

How should we what we believe impact how we act?

Luke 16:13
No servant can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will
be devoted to the one and despise the other.

What do you believe about God that impacts your lifestyle?

James 2:14-24
What good is it, my brothers, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can that
faith save him? If a brother or sister is poorly clothed and lacking in daily food, and one of you
says to them, Go in peace, be warmed and filled, without giving them the things needed for
the body, what good is that? So also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead. But
someone will say, You have faith and I have works. Show me your faith apart from your works,
and I will show you my faith by my works. ...

How do you decide what sin is?

1 John 2:15-17
Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father
is not in him. For all that is in the worldthe desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and
pride in possessionsis not from the Father but is from the world. And the world is passing
away along with its desires, but whoever does the will of God abides forever.
Who is most impacted by the sin in your life?
Give examples of how your life is different when it/is not plagued by certain sins.

Psalm 1:1-6
Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of
sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he
meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its
season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers. The wicked are not so, but
are like chaff that the wind drives away. Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment, nor
sinners in the congregation of the righteous; ...

What has God done for your sin already? How can He help you now?
Conclude by praying against sin.

his creatures.

Matthew 28:16-20

Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of
the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And
behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.

What exactly should we be sharing with people?

Romans 6:23
For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
How should we be sharing it? Discuss the character of God and our character.

John 13:35
By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.

If someone opposes us, does that mean weve failed?

Are there people you know who God wants you to share His love with?
How could life be different if these people gave their lives to Christ?
