A is for Aztecs
The Aztecs were one of the
most recognized and feared
civilizations. They were
advanced in math and
building.

B is for Ballgame
Another civilization (the
Mayans) played a ball game
called Pok a Tok where
you could only use
your hips.

C is for Codex
The codex is the oldest
Mesoamerican book and is
one of the 15 books that
survived when the spanish
invaded.

D is for Disease
Disease is considered to be the
main reason that the Mayans
& Aztecs fell. The Spanish
explorers brought disease that
the mayans werent immune to,
and it killed a lot of them.

E is for Execution
Many of the Mayans were
killed for their crimes.
They also killed people
from other villages.

F is for Fan
Women used fans to look
pretty and to keep cool
in the hot and humid climate
of Mesoamerica. They were
mainly used by wealthy
people.

G is for Gods
In the Mayan and Aztec
cultures religion was a huge
part of their life. They
worshipped constantly and
believed in many gods.

H is for Hearts
Hearts were considered
a very valuable sacrifice
to their many gods.

I is for Inca
The Inca were another
important Mesoamerican
culture. They shared many
of the same religious beliefs
with the Aztecs and Mayans.

J is for Jade Beads


The purpose of Jade Beads is
similar to fans. They were
used for beauty and to show
wealthiness.

K is for King
Some civilizations were ruled
by kings. They were in charge
of all religious actions
and war tactics.

L is for Luxury
High ranked people
in the government like
rulers, kings and nobles
lived in luxury. They
drank chocolate and
lived in large houses.

M is for Machu Picchu


Machu Picchu is the
ruins of an ancient Incan
village. It is one of the
biggest mysteries
in ancient history.

N is for Nobles
Nobles were high ranked
people in the government
who lived in similar
conditions to kings and
rulers. They also were
treated like royalty
often.

O is for Obsidian
Obsidian was sharpened
to be extremely sharp.
They put it on blades
and spears. It was also
used for hunting and
human sacrifices.

P is for Palace
Kings and Rulers lived
in palaces to show their
power and importance.
These palaces were very
large and luxurious.

Q is for Quipo
A quipo is an accounting
tool used to count. They
used to keep track of trade
and numbers.

R is for Rulers
Rulers are very similar
to kings. They ruled villages
and were royalty. Some of
the ancient rulers\kings
just preferred to be
called ruler.

S is for Sacrifices
Sacrifices was a large
part of Incan,Mayan
and Aztec religion.
They believed that
human sacrifices
pleased their gods.

T is for Temples
With many gods the
Mayans, Incas and Aztecs
built hundreds of temples
to worship their different
gods.

U is for Urn
Urns were usually clay
pots that held liquids
and sometimes grains
or ingredients like
flour and sugar.

V is for Vanilla
Vanilla was a spice frequently
used spice in foods. It was
considered to be a luxury.
Only some people could
afford it and use it in
their meals.

W is for Worship
Worship was a very
large part of a day in
Mesoamerica. They built
temples for their gods
and worshipped frequently.

X is for Xoxoltl
Xocolatl is the Mayan
word for chocolate.
Chocolate was a high
honor to drink.

Y is for Yucatan Peninsula


The Yucatan
Peninsula now is in
Southeastern Mexico
separates the
Caribbean Sea and
the gulf of Mexico.

Z is for Zero
The Aztecs were one
of the only civilizations
that had the number.
