LessonSequence:

1. StudentswillbeginwithaquickwriteactivityintheironlinejournalsonMoodletoactivate priorknowledge

2. Studentswillthenmovetotheirnoteswherewewillfinishafewbriefnotesonthebrainand thencoversomebasicvocabularynotesonneurons.

3. Afterwardsstudentswillmodelandconstructadiagramofaneuron,labellingthepartswithme asIdoitatthefrontoftheclassroom.Studentswillthenplacethemonthewalltoformnerve networks,labellingthesynapsesbetweentheir“neurons”.

4. Wewillthenwatchthefirst20minutesofNOVAScience:HowtheBrainWorkswithan

accompanyingfollow­alongsheet.

5. Fortheirexitslip,forthelast10­15minutesstudentswillbegivenablanksheetofartpaper

andbeaskedtoconstructametaphorforasynapse.Iwillgivetheclasstheexampleofacell

phonesendingatextmessagetoanothercellphone,andtheywillworkontheseinpairsand

turntheminastheyleavetheclassroom.
