Bearing Housing
Bearing housings support and protect the shaft bearings on either end of the
pump.
Finger rings or shields are attached to the pump shaft next to the bearing
housing and "fling" fluid leakage from the packing gland away from the
pump shaft. This prevents the fluid from leaking into the bearings.

D. Coupling
On most centrifugal pumps, the shafts of the driver and pump are joined by a
coupling. Alignment of the driver and pump shafts is very important for
good, smooth operation of the pump. Misalignment will cause the shafts and
other pump parts to vibrate. Serious vibration can put enough pressure on the
shafts and coupling to break them. Also, vibration can cause bearings to
wear, internal parts to rub, impellers to become imbalanced, etc. All of these
conditions require maintenance and result in equipment downtime.
