Where Are You From?

Chapter 2 Assignment

Just like you, the place your family is from has a set of defined characteristics. This place, otherwise
known as a region, can be your home, neighbourhood, town, city, or country and is made up of certain
sets of features. These regions help us to study geography, allowing us to organize the world into
spaces. Creating regions helps us see and explain relationships and connections more clearly.
Lets apply the knowledge weve learned from Chapter 2 and use the themes of geographical inquiry to
identity, organize, and inquire deeper into our special region!
Using the two cue cards given to you (one blank, one lined)
create a postcard about your familys region.
Your success criteria for this assignment are:
Research where your family and you are from
The blank cue card will be used as the front of your postcard (the more creative the
better!) and will include
Your regions name
A drawing relating to your region (a flag, the clothing, food, etc.)
On the lined cue card you must include
Whether your region is rural or urban and two characteristics as proof
Natural Forces: the most popular vegetation and general climate
The time zone of your region
Your regions type of ecozone and landform
Locate and mark your region on the class map

Once completed, your work will be displayed on our class map board!
Overall Expectations:

Identify and explain the themes of geographic inquiry: location/place, region,

environment, interaction

Specific Expectations:

Understand and apply the geographic concept of regions

Locate and use relevant information
from a variety of primary and secondary sources
Communicate the results of inquiries in a postcard and map format (see above)
Use appropriate vocabulary to describe inquires (see bolded key words)
