ITDE Guiding Commitment #9:

A commitment to ongoing research

in the field of ITDE.
Research: Research comparison
provide ideas for media replication studies to further our understanding of which strategies to
use for effective distance education teaching (Clark and Morrison, 2001, p.324).
ITDE Guiding Commitment #10:
A commitment to conducting a systematic approach for powerful
instructional tools.
Research: A systems approach to
instruction is a powerful tool for
planning successful standardsbased education because of the
tight alignment among learning
outcomes, student characteristics,
instructional activities and assessments (Dick, Carey & Carey,
2009).

ITDE Guiding Commitments

as discovered by
Dr. Tilisa Thibodeaux

A commitment to recognizing the theory

that media alone does not influence student achievement.

A commitment to learn the

ASSURE model as one research-based
way to insure learning.

ITDE Guiding Commitment #1:

Research: The best current evidence

is that media are mere vehicles that
deliver instruction but do not influence student achievement.(Clark,
2001, p.2).

Research: The ASSURE model is a

process used to develop lessons
that integrate technology and
media for increased learning
(Smaldino, Lowther & Russell,
2012).

A commitment to providing clear

instructional objectives.
Research: State the standards
and learning objectives as specifically as possible (Smaldino,
Lowther, Russell, 2012, p.39).

ITDE Guiding Commitment #2:

A commitment to creating a complete instructional design plan.
Research: Changes in one component can affect other components and the eventual learning
outcomes; failure to account adequately for conditions within a
single component can doom the
entire instructional process (Dick, Carey & Carey,
2009 ,p.1)

ITDE Guiding Commitment #4:

A commitment to understand that media
should not be compared to other media.
Research: Five decades of research
indicates that there are no learning
benefits to be gained from employing
different media in instruction, regardless of their obviously attractive
features or advertised superiority
(Clark, 2001, p.8).
ITDE Guiding Commitment #5:
A commitment to develop learning
around introspection and constructivist
thinking.
Research: Introspection (linear
thinking) combined with constructivism (inferences drawn on simulations
and experiences) influence instructional design and research (Jonassen,
2001).

ITDE Guiding Commitment #7:

A commitment to explore outcomes
and variables that influence ITDE.
Research: Consider cost, motivation and effectiveness when exploring outcomes and variables of instructional technology
(Simonson, 2012).
ITDE Guiding Commitment #8:
A commitment to focus on instructional methods and not solely on the
media.
Research: .research should focus on necessary characteristics of
instructional methods and other
variables (task, learner aptitude and
attributions) which are more fruitful sources for understanding
achievement increases (Clark,
2001, p.10).
