Medieval Art Thesis Project

You will be telling the story of a famous person or event using some of the
medieval art techniques we will be learning in class.
Part of your story telling will be to prove a point about your person, in other
words, to present a thesis, visually.
A thesis is a statement of opinion, the purpose of your creation.
Here are the steps you will follow:
1. Use the essential questions notes I have given you to research the
basics on your topic. DONT forget to write down your sources. (2 level
1, 2 level 2, and 1 level 3 Question)
2. Formulate a thesis, or a statement of opinion, that you can depict in
your art.
3. After watching the demonstration/examples of different types of
medieval art, chose one of the art forms to create your masterpiece.
4. Type up a one to two paragraph plaque to go with your art that
explains your thesis and how your art presents and defends it.
Possible ways to present your thesis:
A tapestry poster. (most suitable for a major battle or telling about a
persons life)
A stained glass window.
A family crest of a famous person.
An epic poem with an artistic border and first letter.
Make an argument for the use of clay.
Possible Topics
Charlemagne
The Feudal System
Battle of Tours
William the Conqueror
King John
The Hundred Years War
The War of the Roses
Viking invasions of England
The Inquisition
The Magna Carta
Henry the III
The Plague
