Greetings SISS Staff,

The ESY Committee would like to remind staff that ESY data collection and decision-making is due soon. There
have been at least three breaks that you could have collected data to determine whether students on your caseload
meet ESY criteria. This decision MUST be made and submitted to SISS by Friday
criteria is attached and will be on the SISS website.

April 17, 2015.

The

Points to Remember:
ESY provides services for students who display significant regression in social, behavioral,
communication, academic and independence skills.

ESY is for students who after long periods of interrupted services, takes a significant number of
weeks before he/she may recoup what they have lost. The attached ESY criteria must be used to determine
eligibility.

ESY services must be based on the identification of existing annual goals. New annual goals are
not developed for ESY services. ESY is to maintain skills rather than to teach new ones.

Data collection and analysis should occur at least three times during the academic school year
(When students return from summer vacation, Thanksgiving, Winter Break, Mid-Winter Break and/or
Long Weekend Breaks).

ESY services must be determined through the IEP process, after data collection and analysis has
been done. Additionally, if a student receives classroom and ancillary services, there should be one team
decision. Refrain from making decisions in isolation.

The IEP Team is not allowed to write in a specific program, i.e., READ 180, System 44. The
teams responsibility is to indicate what services the student requires (OT, SLI, reading, math etc) and
how much time is needed in each area.

ESY services time is not the same as services provided during the school year. For example, if
current services for Speech is two times weekly for 30 minutes. ESY services may only be 30 minutes a
week due to the fact that the ESY team will only support identified goals. Remember to only include goals
in which the data shows that there are significant concerns regarding skill maintenance during a break in
service.
Time should not be the same nor should the time be increased.

A student in a self-contained classroom is not automatically eligible for ESY services; use the
attached criteria to determine eligibility.

Refrain from submitting too many goals; ESY services are five weeks, four days per week.
