To the Parental Guardian of Sally Student,

My name is Miss King and I am Sallys 2nd hour Language Arts instructor. While I enjoy
checking in with parents about their students progress in my class throughout the year, the
purpose of this letter is to address a concern I have for your childs progress in my class.
Sally habitually enters class late without a pass and elects not to participate during direct
instruction or guided practice activities. Although she often receives 9th hour due to these
excessive tardies, I have unfortunately noticed little to no change in her behavior over the course
of 1st quarter.
I have spoken with her on four separate occasions, twice before class and twice
afterwards regarding this behavior, yet she continues to arrive late to 2nd hour and refuses to
participate. I do not wish to pursue administrative or disciplinary action against your child,
though I am growing increasingly concerned about her ability to pass my class. She often misses
important material because of her lateness, and I worry that she will not do well on the unit exam
that is fast approaching.
I believe the primary reason why Sally is not succeeding in my class is also due in part to
the lack of assignments that have been submitted for a grade this quarter. I do not think that Sally
is having a problem with understanding the content, for when prompted enough she demonstrates
a high level of mastery of the material at hand. I feel that if Sally were to participate more in
class activities and lectures, then she will be able to excel in my class.
I will accept any assignments that Sally has not yet turned in for this unit for 80% of the
possible credit for each assignment, though there is unfortunately nothing that I can do for the
participation points that she has lost so far during this unit. If you have any questions or
concerns, please feel free to call before or after school at the number listed, or email me at the
provided email.
Thank you so much for your time and attention to this matter. I do look forward to
hearing from you so that we can both ensure Sallys success in my classroom.
Regards,
Katie King
