The two coaches expressed a variety of character traits, such that Coach K. was
understanding, kind, compassionate, determined, and ready to listen, while Coach Knight was
ferocious, aggressive, and also determined. Coach K.s traits relate with conscientiousness as
an arm of the five personality traits, while Coach Knights traits relate with Neuroticism.
These traits have been influential in the Coaches performances in the sense that both have
achieved unprecedented success due to their determination to win. Coach K. was inducted in
the Basketball Hall of Fame due to his exploits as a manager that emanated from his desire
and determination to win as well as his compassion and readiness to listen to his players.
Coach Knight was also able to come achieve high levels of success due to his aggressive and
explosive nature that went well with his determination to win. He transformed Indiana
University basketball and produced such great coaches as Coach K., which highlights his
success.
Therefore, it can be concluded that both coaches were able to come by tremendous
success despite their different traits and approaches to coaching. However, Coach K. was the
more successful of the two due to his admirable character traits. Coach Knight, on his side,
attracted numerous instances of criticism due to his obsession with pushing the students too
hard and failing to listen to them. The two cases are perfect examples of managerial and
leadership aspects, with Coach K. illuminating the leadership aspect while Coach Knight
illuminates the managerial role.
