Value clarification related to their initial belief statement

My initial belief statement was: I believe that nursing is a journey. I believe that nursing
is a dynamic profession, and that nursing will continue to evolve and grow as I go through my
career as a nurse. To me, nursing is caring for people, and providing the support and health care
knowledge to patients in order for them to return to normal health. Nursing is knowledge-knowing the rights of the patient and of the nurse, and advocating for both the patient and
yourself. Nursing to me means making a difference to others, and treating the people, not
diseases. Nursing to me means creating a welcoming, care-filled environment for patients to feel
comfortable and safe in.
I still believe in this belief statement, and still believe that this is a statement that I am
going to follow, through the values of cooperation, respect, and teamwork. To clarify, my initial
values were the three just previously listed, and I believe that these values are ones that make a
successful nurse, and are values that I will continue to bring into every aspect of my care. I still
stand by my initial belief statement, as it encompasses many of the traits that nurses portray, and
many values and traits that I eventually want to portray as a nurse in my future career.

Brief reflective statement of how their learning objectives were incorporated into your
project
My learning objectives of developing independent working skills, developing and
implementing a project, and becoming more confident in my abilities to work with people with
higher rankings of power than I have were incorporated into this project. These learning
objectives were met by being forced to work independently, since our preceptor was very busy,
to design, implement, and evaluate a project at Royal Gardens. I also learned how to
appropriately work with individuals of different educational, and employment backgrounds, and
I now feel comfortable working with both people above the RN job ranking and below it.

Reflection on feedback from clinical instructor, preceptor and peers

Our preceptor was thrilled with the work we were doing, and both her and the Executive
Director of Royal Gardens spoke very highly of Emily and myself during our midterm
evaluation, and throughout the clinical experience. Our preceptor also provided constructive
criticism, and positive feedback throughout the placement experience, and our peers were very
impressed with our project, from viewing the poster at the end of the placement experience.

Statement of goals for next clinical experience

Three goals that I have for the next clinical placement are:
1. Practical Nursing Skills- This placement I was not able to practice any of my practical
nursing skills, such as giving medications, changing wound dressings, putting in
catheters, etc. I would like to develop proficiency in these skills so that I can provide
better care for my patients, and alleviate the workload from other nurses on my shift.
2. Assessment Skills- This placement I was unable to practice any of my assessment skills,
such as physical assessments, mental assessments, etc. These assessments are a large part
of the role of the nurse, and I need to gain some confidence in my assessment skills
before I can bring them into the workforce. I would like to perform daily assessments
during my next placement, and would like to be able to complete them without looking at
a sheet for guidance.
3. Patient-Nurse Relationship Building- This placement I never got to work with the
population we designed our project for. Next placement I would like to work on making
connections with the patients that I am working with, to work on effectively
communicating and personalizing care for each of the patients.
