Technology Integration: Lesson Plan
My Lesson Plan:
Create a class book for Independence Day
Objective: To create brief biographies about delegates assigned to students.
We will use online resources to create the biographies.
Activities:
1) Students will draw from a hat to choose their delegates they will be
writing about.
2) They will start their research by looking up their delegates using the
website www.teachervision.com to create the timeline for their
biographies. You may choose one other outside source to collect more
information on the delegate.
3) They will write a brief summary based on what they find online of the
delegates and create their works cited page.
4) Once they have found all the information they need for the lesson,
they will write their biographies for the delegates chosen.
5) Students will then work in one group to create the works cited page for
the book.
6) Once all items are created, students will need to continue to work
together to create the book by using construction paper and markers
to make the cover.
Materials Needed: Computer with Internet access, Printer, Construction
paper, Markers, Glue, Scissors, and any other items approved by teacher
to make the cover of your book.

3.) Part 2
Phase 1: (a.)
The relative advantage of using technologies in this lesson is: the
students will have an opportunity to learn how to gather information and

learn a little history as they go. Most students are growing up surrounded
by technology, so the opportunity to make a fun classroom book using a
wonderful holiday like Independence Day will create a chance for the
students to have some fun learning our history.
Phase 2: (b.)
The objective of this lesson plan is to effectively create a biography
with the search engine provided alongside the outside source they are
allowed to pick. This also provides the opportunity to learn how to
research their topic and to write effective notes. Knowing how to write
notes is extremely important for biography writing. They will know how to
cite their work and how to work together as a team to create the
bibliography. This will also be used to make sure they are on track prior to
creating the book, since they have to get approval of the websites they
are using in order to do their research. The students will need to turn in a
rough draft for a grade, before the final product is made, so that any
changes that need to be made can be changed. In preparation for this
project I would make sure that we had access to a computer lab or that I
had computers set up in the classroom. I would make sure that the
internet access was running efficiently. I would also make sure we had
access to a library and allow the students to use books for their research
in case the internet was down as a backup plan. I would also make sure
that the classroom was fully stocked of paper, construction paper, glue,
scissors, markers, and any other items needed to complete their project.
Phase 3: (c.)
For me to evaluate this activity and see where any revisions would
need to be made would be to put the lesson in action. I would create the
activity to last for about six weeks and implement the search engine as an
opportunity to see if the students found one website to be more useful
than others. I would also place my students in small groups to learn how
to do research on history topics so that they would be better prepared to
find information on their delegates.
(d.) For this lesson I would like to implement it in the fourth or fifth grade
class. At this grade level children seem most interested in becoming
independent and starting to receive a cell phone. This is a good time for
the students to learn how to research topics and to use the internet
wisely. Students will turn in a typed biography through Microsoft word with
my help, giving them the opportunity how to produce a paper in typed
form. They will use the search engine I provide, alongside using one
outside source I approve. The skills learned in this assignment will further
help them learn how to write better when they get ready to write papers

in Middle School. This assignment meets NETS and 21st century learning
outcomes on how the content and technology works together with the
integration process.
(e.) This assignment fits the elementary level of fourth and fifth grade
with the creativity that can take place completing this project. This
assignment can easily be flexible and modified for lower grades as low as
kindergarten on up through high school.
