METHOD #2 (For advanced users)

When you watch streaming video using Windows Media Player or using Internet Explorer with a
small Windows Media Player inside the browser, a special protocol is used to stream live or
prerecorded audio and video content to your computer without any need to download a file
before playing. The protocol is called MMS -- "Microsoft Media Server". It is a Microsoft
proprietary network streaming protocol. Microsoft makes it impossible to download video or
audio file on hard disk using standard media software. Microsoft has never released a
specification to describe how MMS actually works, yet it is extensively used by their windows
media player software. So, in order to bypass this limitation you can use GetASFStream, or
another free multimedia tool - VLC (VideoLAN) Player.

Step 1.  Download and install VLC Player -- Click here to download this tool

Example: let's suppose you want to save TV show from the Miracle Channel Canada. Go here:
http://www.miraclechannel.ca/stream/index.html. You can see a small window with windows
media player controls inside the area named "Miracle Channel Player".

Step 2.  Right click on the window showing the video. Choose "Properties" from the drop-down
menu.
Step 3.  Select string with internet location of the video as shown above, right-click on it, and
choose "Copy". Or select and just press Ctrl+C to copy the string with URL. In our example, it
would be: http://70.87.8.31/miracle-sat // Oops, as you can notice, this string doesn't end with
.ASX ! Therefore this stream can be saved only using THE BEST and THE EASIEST
GetASFStream program (as it was described above). So, if you will find such video, just go to
the first solution, use GetASFStream and forget about VLC.

Well, VLC is not the best solution. Sorry, but VLC will not handle it. VLC can be used only for
some URL ending with ASX or for URLs with direct standard info about video stream. On the
page of this Miracle TV Channel you can find a direct link to ASX file --
http://www.miraclechannel.ca/stream/live.asx Very well. So, just copy it to use in VLC Player
later.

Step 4.  Launch VLC Player. Click Start -> Programs -> VideoLAN -> VLC media player.

Step 5.  Click File -> Open Network Stream. Choose HTTP/HTTPS/FTP/MMS, and paste
URL that you have copied.
Step 6.  Next, check Stream output, and click Settings...
Step 7.  Finally check Play locally, File. Enter path, and destination file name ending with .asf ,
and also don't forget to choose ASF as Encapsulation Method.
Press OK, OK. VLC will save video stream as ASF file.

Well, as you can see GetASFStream is a simpler and more efficient method to record video
streams from web sites. Just in case, we have provided solution for VLC player, because many
people still use it.
