Subject: PSHE (Thought, Feelings & Behavior)
In this lesson, I taught the students the relationship between thought, feelings and
behaviour. An incident happened before the lesson start, the classroom was messy and made my
mentor very frustrated and annoyed. After scolding the students, she used it as the introduction
of this lesson which made a very good introduction for the lesson (although she unintentionally
took over the lesson at the beginning). I also let the students to discuss with their partner about
their feeling. Finally, I assigned them to write a journal that about their feelings, thought and
behaviour towards an event that happened in their life.
At the beginning, I was a bit worried that I cant explain this lesson well. However,
thanks to my mentors introduction, the lesson went smooth. I felt that this lesson was very chill.
It mostly done in discussion and sharing of experience. I felt glad that this lesson wasnt bored
them. I was so happy that students willing to share their experience with others. I also felt that I
understand my students better through their sharing. It was a really good and relaxes chit-chat
session with the students.
This lesson went successfully. Through the lesson, I found that PSHE this subject is not
only for us to teach the students good moral values; it is also the bridge that could bring us closer
to the students by understand them better. I also observed from my mentor that a real life
example is the most impactful sample or introduction that we could present to the students.
Besides that, I also realized that PSHE this subject is more towards experience and common
sense instead of deliver set of theories. I also found that during PSHE lesson, there is no exactly
right and wrong answer. The aim was to see how the students think in their mind towards a
subject and thing.
Not only that, I also realized that if my mentor did not help me to do the interesting
introduction part, I might not able to deliver this lesson successfully. It might become a quite
bored lesson. This was because during that time I was actually a bit blurred at the explanation
part, even with the video. It was all thanks to my mentor. Next, I found that if I did not have an
experience sharing session, I might not know my students better. By hearing at their sharing, I
learnt lot about my students individually. I also realized that if I did not take PSHE as an
important subject, I might not know the purpose of having this subject (because it is a nonacademic subject).
I found that real life experiences were the most impactful example in PSHE lesson. It
dawn on me that the purpose of choosing example that can students can relate to them. It was
just same as what I have learnt in the text book, students can make more sense if the example or
things that shown are related to them. I also observed that the approach that they used to teach
PSHE this subject is more towards behavioural approach. Most of the topic emphasis on
students behavioural responses and more.
In conclusion, I learnt that real life experience is the best and impactful example to use in
class. I also learnt that PSHE lesson help me to build my relationship with students and
understand them better. Moreover, I understand the aims of PSHE better now. In the future, I
will use more real life experience as my example. I will encourage students to share their
experience. Last but not least, I will also make sure myself have a better understanding towards
PSHE this lesson.

Subject: IPC (Waterfalls)
I taught IPC subject today. It was one of my observation lessons. I used interactive
website game as the recall part of last week lessons. I did my introduction part as what my
universitys lecturers did most of the time which is using TodaysMeet to type dawn the students
prior knowledge on the topic. This part was a bit messy at the beginning as it was the first time
that the students get in touch with such technology. However, everything went smoothly
afterwards. The research activity was a bit stuck for the students, but the video that shown to the
students later then save the whole situation. I managed to end the lesson according to the time
although the plenary part was a bit rushed.
I was so nervous but excited at the same time to teach this lesson. I nervous because it
was one of my observations by the schools teacher (which I am not familiar with their
expectations). On the other hand, I am so excited to teach the students because I have been
prepared this lesson for the past three days. It cant be denied that I felt cold pierce through my
heart when I saw students went a bit messy when using the TodaysMeet website. However, I am
also glad that they all like it and get used to it after a while. I was also so surprised that the lesson
went very well as all the students were giving their best.
This lesson went very successful. In my opinion, it was the best lesson that I ever done.
My inspiration of using TodaysMeet (web 2.0 tools) was come from my experience at the
university. My lecturer used this tool before, and I found it very interesting. I gave it a try to this
was because I observed that no teachers were using tools similar to this in the school. I found
that 21st century learners really naturally interested in using technology. I also realized that this
method involved the whole class to engage in the discussion. From there, I found that it was in
line with the concept of active learning. When the learners are actively engage in the activity,
learning take place in the most effective way.
I also found out that the research activity was stuck a bit because it was too difficult for
the students. I found it is better for learners in formal operational stage. Still there is an
alternative way to done this. I realized that this activity could be done in a better way and the
students might be able to perform better if I provide appropriate support for the students.
According to Vygotskys Zone of Proximal Development theory, it is the range of task that the
students can achieve with help. However, I failed to give the students support during that time as
it was a sudden change of plan.
Besides that, I also found that I should praise my students for the good behaviour that
they show on the spot. As I study before, the effectiveness of positive reinforcement was most
impactful when the feedback was given directly. Unfortunately, I did not do that. I only praise
the students afterwards during another lesson. I can saw that the effect was not great as if I praise
them on the spot. Through this, I also realized that I know lots of theories, principle and
knowledge, but most of the time I did not know how to implement it on the right time, I will get
stuck and wonder what shall I do. Especially when it was the first time I face the situation.
Then, I also found that using video to teach the formation was a very good method. This
was because it involved animation which is much easy to be understood (as it is one of the
concrete examples). I got this information from students direct feedback (reaction and
questioning the students). I also realized that I did my plenary for the lesson better than last time
(not only ask students questions, but also did a summary of the lesson) although it was a bit
rushed. Moving on, I realized that my advantage in teaching is I like to involve technologies into
my teaching which gave me a plus point.

Last but not least, according to the feedback that given by Ms Yvonne, I realized that I
need to scan around the class more frequent. I also found out that my believed and style of time
management for the lesson was actually one of the important strategies that hold on by the UK
education groups (which is do not keep the students waiting for you during interval of activities).
Do not give instruction until you get all the students attention was also one of the skills that I
should improve on. Through Ms Yvonne, I just realized that sometimes I let my students start
work even before I finish my instruction.
As a conclusion, I learnt that when I set a challenging task for the students I must always
provide support for the students as well. I also learnt that using technology in the class is sort of
become compulsory in the 21st century as we are all moving towards a high-technology era.
Next, I also learnt that I should practice the knowledge that I have learnt more often so I will not
get stuck in a situation. I learnt that there are many skills involved in giving instructions. For my
future lesson, I will continue involves useful technology in my lesson. I will also make sure I
double check the level of difficulty of the task that I have set and provide helps when needed. I
will also try my best to practice the knowledge that I have learnt into my teaching practice. I will
also start practicing scanning through the class frequently. Lastly, for my coming lesson, I will
make sure that I do not let my students to start work until I finish the instructions.

Subject: Literacy (Guided Reading)
Due to some changes in the timetable, I have guided reading for literacy lesson today.
Todays guided reading was different from the first guided reading that I have. Last week, I did
the reading part with the students. This week, I did the practice part. I used the labelled random
picking ice-cream stick and let the students to pick for their task. After that, students move on to
do their task and I move around the class to facilitate the students. This was a quite relax lesson
too.
For this lesson, I felt very relax and chill. I was happy that when I saw students excited
on random picking their ice-cream stick. I was glad that students reaction was good although
was a quite relax lesson. In other words, I am glad that I still can made some excitement in the
class even it was a relax session. This all thanks to my mentors coaching. Besides that, I also
felt appreciated as students were now all respect and recognized me as their teacher instead of
assistant teacher.
This lesson was ended successfully. Through this lesson I realized that even a relax
lesson can be carry out in an excited way. According to the Marzanos on-task behaviour theory,
high energy level in the class will affect student attention on the task. I also found that guided
reading was fun not only because of the story part, but also the tasks that students have to
complete. By looking at the tasks that given to the students, I found that the theory of Blooms
Cognitive Taxonomy can be related to the tasks. The tasks that set for students have different
level in terms of cognitive thinking process.
I realized that if I did not use the random picking ice-cream stick, this lesson might turn
out bored and dull. I also found that if guided reading only means to student sit down and read, I
guess they their passion might fade out soon as well. Not only that, I also found that the tasks
was actually act as assessment and reinforcement of what they have read.
In a nutshell, I learnt that excitement in the classroom is not boarder by the types of
lesson. Even a relax lesson could be exciting too. I learnt this from my mentor. I also learnt that

there must be assessment for every lesson, included guided reading. In the future, I will make
sure that I always keep my class in a high energy mood. I will also try to figure out more
interesting teaching aids in the classroom.

Subject: Art (Hand Print Art)
Today was a very busy day for me. I taught three lessons in total and this was the third
lesson that I taught. This lesson was special because I do not have any DLP or reference for it.
Therefore, I ended up think of my own lesson plan and came up with something that students
will like yet at the same time related to the elements of art. Finally, I decided to do the element of
colour for the art lesson, and I chosen the topic 'Hand Print Art' for them. I share some sample
works to them. The lesson when very well, students enjoy the lesson, and I also got my feedback
from my mentor.
I was looking forwards and excited for this lesson as I really love art. I was so excited to
see that students enjoy and emerge in the lesson. I was glad that I chosen the right activity and
topic for the students. I was also surprise to look at students' creativity. Many of them can do
very well art, I felt so proud of them. Last but not least, I also felt very happy that my mentor
told me what is my mistake and way to improve my instructions.
Overall, the lesson was very successful and my mentor said it is a good lesson. I found
that children like to play with colours even if they were not good in colouring. Besides that, I
also found that hand print art really trigger students' creativity. Through their product, I can see
how they good they are in create new things. I also found that the level of difficulty of this task is
at the top level of Bloom Cognitive Taxonomy which required the students to create something.
Besides that, I also realized that I should demonstrate how to do the print for the students.
I only realized this when my mentor told me. This was because most of the children thought that
they have to draw the shape of a hand on the paper first and only print, but it actually is colour
the hand then leaves the mark on the paper (it is like playing with stamp). I also aware that when
I was giving instruction I forgot to wait to gain the whole class instructions. This actually made
the instruction did not deliver clearly to the students.
All by all, I learnt that art lesson is one of the channels that can train students creativity.
I also learnt that it is very important to have demonstration for the task even when the task seems
easy. I also learnt that I must gain all the students attention before I give my instructions. As for
the future lesson, I will continue carry on in teaching art subject; I will make sure the activity
that I set can expand students creativity. I will also make sure that I demonstrate to the students
about the activity besides giving sample work. Lastly, I will make sure that I gain the whole class
students attention first before I giving out my instructions.

Subject: Literacy (Spelling)
Today I actually did not thought of having this lesson. This was because the school
having Chinese New Year celebration from the morning. Anyway, my mentor did asked the
students to prepare for spelling before this, so I did spelling for this lesson as I only left 20
minutes for my lesson. The process went very well as we already practiced few times with the
students what to do during spelling. It was a successful lesson and I also learnt something from

this lesson.
I was a bit nervous and excited for this lesson as it was my first time doing the spelling
lesson. I was also a bit worried for my pronunciation. I was so glad and pleased to see that all the
students were getting to the way and their behaviour have improved during spelling lesson. They
were much familiar with the expectation that we set for them during spelling. I was also happy
that all the students work hard on their spelling because they want to get the DOJO point.
In short, this was a good lesson. I noticed that reward is a way to reinforce students on a
task. My mentor starter this first. She told the class that if they do well in their spelling they will
get a DOJO point. I found it is really effective. According to the theory of motivation, there are
actually two motivation systems extrinsic and intrinsic motivation. Reward is one of examples
of the extrinsic motivation. Not only that, I also realized that rewards also monitored the
behaviour of the students in the class. I also realized that if I did not used the Class Dojo in the
class, my students might not work so hard and be serious about the spelling.
Besides that, I also found that my mentor used phonics when students asked to repeat the
word. I observed that when my mentor breaks down the word using phonics, students were more
likely able to spell the word. Moreover, through that students are also trained to spell word that
did not know by listen to its sound. I realized that it is a very good way to teach spelling as it also
taught the students to pronounce the word properly. If my mentor did not help me by repeating
the word using phonics, I guess I will just repeat the word normally and the students might not
be that engage in the spelling test.
I also realized that my class just as what Ms Yvonne told me, they are very well behaves
under my mentor guidance. I realized that it was the rules that my mentor have set for spelling
test at the beginning of the year, and after few times of practice, students were familiar with the
pattern. Therefore, when I take over, it was quite easy to monitor the class. I could only say that
I am very lucky, because I have a very good mentor. If I did not get a good mentor, and have a
more challenging class, the lesson might not go as smooth as what I have experienced. It might
not be easy to monitor the class with my current classroom management skills.
In a conclusion, I learnt that motivation is very important. We must always make sure
that students are motivates to learn. I also learnt that when doing spelling, I can always include
phonics into it as it is the basic. Next, I learnt that rules and expectation towards students should
be established since the beginning of the year. For my future lesson, I will make sure I always
motivate my students to learn. I will also make sure of phonics when needed. Last but not least, I
will also make sure that I go to look up for more classroom management skills and learn from
my mentor, so that I have sufficient skills to face challenging class.
