Benefits of Inclusion

Inclusion has proven to be beneficial to all individuals


involved, including the children with and without
disabilities, teachers and parents. Inclusion is about
belonging, participation and reaching ones full potential
in a diverse society.

Benefits of Inclusion for students


with disabilities
By being in a classroom with typically developing
children, the children with special needs will learn
appropriate academic and social behavior with the
modelling of their peers.

Students with disabilities are given opportunities to
participate in a social environment, resulting in outcomes
such as engagement, social acceptance, and friendships
that might not be so readily available outside of class.

Students have higher expectations with the access to
the general curriculum, and learn important academic
skills.
Students receive opportunities to accomplish their IEP
goals.

There is more collaboration between professionals
because there are more than one teacher in the
classroom. This means that there is joint participation in
planning, responsibilities, and communication.

subjects by teaching the other students included in their
classroom.

Inclusion benefits both students with and without
disabilities as well as the teachers in order to gain
experience with an inclusive environment.
With collaboration, the professionals and teachers all
learn new teaching styles and methods that can be
used to benefit all students in the classroom.

In conclusion:
Exposure to an inclusive classroom benefits all those
involved, including all students, teachers, and families to
increase knowledge and acceptance of all individuals in
our society.
