This week in FLK-3

We began figuring out where in the world we are!

Miss Evans built an airplane in the classroom to take
us places (in our minds eye)like to India to visit
Alvina!
We celebrated an early St. Patricks Day!
Have a WONDERFUL and RESTFUL March Break! Safe Travels!

In Language: We continued to sign in to practice printing our name.

We celebrated St. Patricks Day. We learned who St. Patrick was and that on
March 17 we celebrate his life as well as Irish culture.
We continued to practice using Stretchy the Snake reading Bob Book #2, Sam,
and sounding out unfamiliar words.
We continued Our Catholic Seasons which augments our preparation for Easter.
We continued our booklet about some of the Miracles that Jesus performed. We
are concentrating on drawing a picture and adding labels. (Some of us are expected
to do more writing than others.) We learned about Jesus healing the paralyzed
man. Booklets went home in mailbags to be celebrated at home! We are setting
the stage for the elders of the church to be so annoyed and jealous that Jesus is
a) teaching and b) performing miracles that they want Him dead.
In keeping with the Spring forward of the clocks (which consensus tells us was
more like limping forward!), we began a series of lessons on sleep and dreams. We
began by learning the 4 stages of sleep and discussed REM sleep, or rapid eye

movement sleep, as the time that we dream. We learned about Joseph and the
multi colored coat. We discussed his gift of being able to interpret dreams.
We rhymed. We did more work around identifying beginning and end sounds.
We continued our Snuggle Up and Read Program.
Miss Mason read The Most Magnificent Thing. Afterwards, each student had to
create a picture of his or her own Most Magnificent Thing!
Dalien the Alien has had successful sleepovers. His parents report from outer
space that they are thrilled with his earth education. This week he learned about
going to the Dentist at Peters house and learned about family life in Canada at
Joes.
Gym: We had our last Gymnastics class. We continued to enjoy double periods.
Using some of the moves we saw the big kids do during the school Gymnastic
presentation, we continued working on balances, jumps and landings and moving
creatively in short routines. The presentations were very dramatic!
Religion: We continued learning about some of the miracles that Jesus performed
and discussed how these miracles made the priests and higher ups feel towards
Jesus.
We continued our Lenten Puzzle of Good Deeds. Thank you to those who have let us
know Good Deeds you are seeing at home so we can reinforce them in the class!
Herein lies the TRUE motivation!!
We also added 11 rocks to our Easter Garden creating a pathway to the Tomb of
Jesus, which represents the Journey that the disciples took while waiting for the
resurrection of Jesus.
Science : We did a Rainbow experiment with milk, food coloring and dish soap.
Ohhhhhhh! So cool!
In Art: We stamped cut up Green Peppers (which look like Clovers) with green,
white and yellow paint on Giant Clovers. It was a VERY St. Patricks Day
appropriate art activity

In Music, Drama and Dance: We learned a new song I Got Canada in My Pocket,
a song about the important symbols on the various Canadian coins.
In Mathematics: We began money. We worked on coin recognition and value. We
began buying with coins. We went on airplane adventures.of course!! We had to
buy tickets to go on trips to see various animals. The pilot had to know how much to
charge for each trip and the passenger had to know where to go and if they had
enough money. Reality lesson!!!!!
In Personal and Social Development: As we approach March Break, and we are
still dealing with residual tiredness from the time change, the children appear
TIRED. We talked about how we cope when we feel irritable..and how we dont!
The weather has been so much nicer that we have tried to get out to mountain
climb every day. Please dont let the sunshine or your 5/6 year old convince you
they no longer need snowpants or hats or mitts. It is still winter. If we want to go
outdoors to play, we need to be dressed warmly.
In Inquiry/Directed Play: Miss Evans began teaching the children more about
their world. They discussed planet, continent, country, province, city, street and
home. The children created a 2-D model of this information.
