3. Interesting Text/Materials for Instruction:

What text(s)/materials are you using for your lesson?

Spelling Lists gauged on the level of spelling that the student is able to do at the time
Plastic bags filled with paint
Letter tiles
Play-doh
Colored pencils
Paper
Pipe cleaners
Letter stamps

4. Student Engagement: What engagement principle(s) are you choosing for this lesson?
________choice, ____X___collaboration, ________building concepts, ________relevancereal world
interaction
I will engage students in this lesson by: This lesson is based on the fact that students will learn
differently and need to have exposure to the same material multiple times in order to understand. Spelling
words can be difficult to engage children and this will make it fun and interactive instead of just drilling
the words many times.
5. Student Activity/Differentiation. What will your students be doing to meet the purpose of your
lesson? (listening, reading, searching, writing, strategy instruction, group work, etc.)
What my students are actually DOING: Before, During, and After Reading

Students will be given a spelling list that they need to learn for that week. They will be split up
into groups of two where they will have a dice and take turns rolling it to decide how they are
going to be exposed to the words. The one that rolls the dice will do the activity and then they
will pass it to their partner where they will check and make sure that it is correct. If there are any
errors the partner will correct them and justify why they believe that it needs to be corrected.

Write in baggy
Stamp in dough
Build it with pipe cleaners
Rainbow words

5. ABC order
6. Spell with Scrabble
How will you differentiate your instruction for struggling/gifted readers?

This activity is already differentiated for different types of learners. In order to allow for
struggling and gifted readers to get everything that they need from the lessons the actual
spelling words can be different for the different groups and the students would be paired
with other students in their spelling group.

6. Writing/Communicating/Assessment: How will you know students have met the purpose of the
lesson? What will students do to record their understanding?
Students will be assessed by the assignment that they turn into the teacher. They will document how
they did each of the activities after they are done. Any corrections that their partner needed to make
will be placed in their assignment in a different color. This way they are writing each of the words,
but they are also being exposed to them in multiple different ways. The teacher will be able to see
misconceptions and how they were fixed.

7. Reflection: Strengths? Improvements? Be specific.?
