OCCT 650: Leadership and Occupational Therapy

Touro University Nevada

Megan Meengs

Personal Statement:

I complete my Master of Science in Occupational Therapy in June 2015 from Touro University
Nevada (TUN). During my time at TUN, I became a lifetime member of the Pi Theta Epsilon Occupational
Therapy Honor Society, a Student Ambassador, and completed work study as an anatomy tutor. I also
worked as a research assistant for an occupational therapy based pediatric sleep study conducted at the
Center for Autism and Development Disabilities and presented on the findings for TUN Research Day. I
completed my first level II fieldwork within the Battle Ground School District and greatly enjoyed working
within a school district and helping the students in achieving success within an educational setting.

Mission and/or Vision Statement:

My vision is to be passionate and enjoy my work by finding employment where I can make a
difference in my clients life. I will find enjoyment in my personal life through make the most out of each
day. I will find opportunities to use my natural talents and gifts including; reliability, dedication, and
motivation. My life's journey is to create happiness and independence where I go.

Strengths:
My top strengths include; Achiever, Harmony, and Connectedness. I enjoy being busy with different
tasks and getting everything done ahead of time. I believe in the importance of groups working well
together and strive to provide harmony within a group. Additionally, in terms of connectedness, I fully
believe that things happen for a reason and will work out in the end.

Growth Needs:
Being very dedicated to my education and having achiever as one of my top strengths; an area of
growth to work on is allowing other team members more opportunities within designated projects. I
always work hard to work in harmony on a project within a group, but at times I find myself wanting to
complete large parts of it independently. By taking a step back, I can grow in letting others complete the
work and trusting that they will do a good job.

Leadership Model and/or Style Selected: Situational Leadership

My most effective leadership style is situational leadership. My leadership style is very task-relevant and I
find myself adapting my leadership style in relation to the individual or group that I am working with.
