Student Expectations
Beginning of Class

Using the Restroom: Students should use the


bathroom prior to class.
~Students may use the bathroom during class only if it is a
emergency. In that case, students must obtain a bathroom
pass from the teacher.
Attendance: Attendance will be checked at the
very beginning of class. Students are expected
to be in their seat at the start of the bell.
Students who arrive to class after the bell has
run will be marked tardy.
~At the start of the school year, students will be given two
tardy passes. Students may redeem these passes to not receive
a tardy.
~Students who have been absent will be able to find make
up activities and handouts at the front of the room in the
Make Up Work folders. There is a folder for labeled for
each day of the week. Make up work should be turned in
according to the +1 rule. This means that students have
as many days they have been absent, plus one more day to
turn in all make up work.
Materials: Students should remember to bring
all necessary materials to class with them. This
includes their classroom binder and due
homework assignments.
~If a student leaves something behind in their locker, they
may use a tardy pass to leave the classroom in order to
collect any forgotten materials.

Homework: All homework assignments will be


due at the beginning of class time to the
Homework turn in bin at the front of the
classroom.
~At the start of the school year, students will be given two
Get Out of Jail Free cards. Students may redeem these
cards at any time throughout the year to not receive any late
penalties.
~Students may turn in late or missing homework, for half
credit at any time during the current unit. Once the current
unit has ended, no more late homework from that unit will!

Teacher Expectations
Beginning of Class

Attendance: The teacher will check


attendance at the very beginning of class
according to the class seating chart. Attendance
will be recorded into the school computer
system.

Materials: The teacher will provide additional


materials needed to the students if the days
lesson activities require them (scissors, glue,
markers, construction paper, etc.)

Homework:
All homework assignments, as

well as all other assignments (in class activities,


quizzes, tests, papers, projects, etc.) will be
graded and returned to the students within one
week of the date that the assignment has been
turned in. This also applies to late work or
missing work.
~It is the decision of the teacher as to whether or not a
Get out of Jail Free Card may be used for an
assignment. If there is a particular assignment in which a
Get out of Jail Free Card may not be used, the teacher
must let students know in advance.

be accepted. All projects and essays must be turned in on
time.

Warm Up: After turning in due homework


assignments, students are expected to complete
a daily Warm Up question on a blank sheet of
paper. Class instruction and activity will begin
with a whole class discussion of the Warm Up
question.

Warm Up: The teacher will display this


question on the classroom SmartBoard along
side a countdown timer indicating the amount
of remaining time left to complete the daily
Warm Up question.

Middle of Class
~Throughout class students are expected to follow the 4
Ps from the Classroom Code of Conduct.
Signals: Students will pay attention and repeat
teachers signals to quiet down and listen.
Individual Work: Students will be expected to
complete individual work quietly and
independently.
~If a student has a question, he/she should raise his hand
and the teacher will come to the students desk to assist
them.

Group Work: Students will often be involved


in collaboration activities. In this case, each
student must take on the role of either a
reader, recorder, or reporter.

Whole-Class Discussion: All students are


expected to participate in whole-class
discussions.
~Students should raise their hand to ask/pose a question or
to add a comment or opinion during instruction and wholeclass discussions.


End of Class
Finishing Work Early: Students who finish
their work early, may work on homework or
ready quietly.
~Our classroom has a classroom library. All students are
allowed to check out books from the classroom library
through the teacher.

Returning Materials: Students are expected


return materials used during class to the
classroom materials cabinet.

Middle of Class

Signals: To focus students attention, the


teacher will clap, asking students to do so too.

Individual Work: The teacher is expected to

~The teacher will keep record of books checked in and out


of the classroom library.

~Students are responsible for the materials they use. All
materials should be returned in the same condition at the
end of the class as they were in the beginning of class.

In-Class Assignments: Students are


expected to turn in in class assignments to the
In-Class bin at the front of the classroom
before leaving class.

Leaving the Classroom: Students should not


line up at the door before leaving the classroom,
they should remain in the seats.
~Students will not pack up their things until the teacher
indicates to do so.
~Students will not leave the classroom when the bell has
rung, they will wait until the teacher dismisses them.

Leaving the Classroom: The teacher will


indicate to the students it is time to pack up
their things with at least one minute of class
time left.

After School: The teacher will be available


after school for any student who would like to
stop by the classroom. The teacher may be
reached by email as well.
