INTRODUCTION

INTRODUCCION

Welcome to the Instructor Manual: Safe Tractor and Machinery Operation for Hispanic Youth.
This program represents a pilot effort to provide
culturally appropriate Spanish language materials
and video clips to teach some aspects of general
farm safety and safe tractor and machinery operation to Hispanic youth. The primary content to
be taught is contained in the task sheets. Several
short video clips have been produced to support
several of the task sheets.

Bienvenidos al Manual del Instructor: Manejo de

Tractores y Maquinaria Segura para Jvenes Hispanos.
Este programa representa un esfuerzo para brindar
material y videos cortos apropiados culturalmente en
el idioma Espaol, para ensear algunos aspectos generales de seguridad en las fincas y el manejo seguro
de tractores y maquinaria para jvenes Hispanos. El
contenido primario del que hablaremos se encuentra
en las Hojas de Trabajo. Se han producido muchos videos cortos para apoyar muchas de las hojas de trabajo.

The video clips are in Spanish only while video

scripts, task sheets and other instructional information is in English and Spanish. A two-column
text layout for this Instructor Manual was chosen
to maximize the flexibility of who teaches this program to Hispanic youth. For example, a bilingual
person could be the instructor alone, or persons
who speak only one language could team teach
the material.

La narrativa de los videos cortos est nicamente en

Espaol, las hojas de trabajo e informacin contenida
en el video, se encuentra en Ingls y en Espaol. Se
escogi el formato de texto a dos columnas para el
Manual de Instructor, con el propsito de maximizar
la flexibilidad de quin ensee este programa a los
jvenes Hispanos. Por ejemplo, una persona bilinge
podra ser el nico instructor, o una persona que hable
nicamente un idioma podra ensear el material en
grupos.

The task sheets used in this program come from

the National Safe Tractor and Machinery Operation Program (NSTMOP) developed and managed
by the Agricultural Safety & Health Program at
Penn State. You can access this complete program
plus additional curriculum materials at www.
nstmop.psu.edu. Because the task sheets used
in this program come from another program, we
have not modified the numbering system or the
page numbers on any task sheets.

Las hojas de trabajo que se usaron en este programa

son del Programa Nacional de Manejo de Tractores
y Maquinaria Segura (NSTMOP) desarrollado y
administrado por el Programa de Seguridad y Salud
Agrcola de Penn State. Usted puede tener acceso

TASK SHEETS
There are 26 task sheets selected for use in this
program and all are in English and Spanish. The
task sheets are the primary curriculum resource
to be used. Nine of the task sheets have accompanying video clips to support your instruction.
The remaining task sheets are complimentary and
should be used to the extent possible. All task
sheets contain learning objectives, safety content,
and suggested student activities. The task sheets
are in the separate booklet Task Sheets: Safe Tractor and Machinery Operation for Hispanic Youth.

HOJAS DE TRABAJO
Se seleccionaron 26 hojas de trabajo para ser
utilizadas en este programa y todas se encuentran
en Ingls y en Espaol. Las hojas de trabajo son la
fuente curricular primaria que se debe usar. Nueve
de las hojas de trabajo acompaan los videos
cortos para apoyar sus instrucciones. Las hojas de
trabajo restantes son complementarias y debern
usarse lo ms posible. Todas las hojas de trabajo
contienen objetivos de instruccin, contenido
de seguridad, y actividades que se le sugieren al
estudiante. Las hojas de trabajo se encuentran
en el folleto separado Hojas de Trabajo: Manejo
de Tractores y Maquinaria Segura para Jvenes
Hispanos.

VIDEO CLIPS
There are 38 video clips and they are organized
into seven major groups. The major groups have
from two to 11 clips in each major group. The
video clips use voice-over narration with some
graphics to help reinforce safe (correct) and unsafe (incorrect) scenes and messages. There are
several video clips that do not have a task sheet to
support it. Video clips range from approximately
10 seconds for the shortest to almost two minutes
for the longest. Total video clips time is 27 minutes.
RESOURCE BOOKLETS
Two resource booklets are provided for this program. This booklet, Instructor Manual: Safe Tractor and Machinery Operation for Hispanic Youth,
guides the instructor in presenting the curriculum
materials. It includes pictures of video clips, a
printed copy of the script for that video in English
and Spanish, and titles of the task sheet(s) to be
used for particular topics. Also included are video
clips and hands-on evaluation score sheets that
can be used to evaluate how much your students
have learned.
The second booklet, Task Sheets: Safe Tractor and
Machinery Operation for Hispanic Youth, contains
all task sheets, in English and Spanish, prepared
for use in this program. There are several complimentary task sheets provided which have no
accompanying video clip but which are still useful
in teaching youth about safety. The task sheets
are grouped by how they may be used. For example, the task sheets that have an accompanying
video clip are together and the extra task sheets
are together. The task sheets with video clips
are identified in the Table of Contents while the
complementary task sheets are identified in Appendix A.

VIDEOS CORTOS
Hay 38 videos cortos organizados en siete grupos
principales. Los grupos principales contienen de
dos a once cortos en cada uno. Los videos cortos
tienen voz dentro de la narrativa con algunos
grficos para ayudar a reforzar la seguridad
(correcto), y la inseguridad (incorrecto) en las
escenas y mensajes. Hay muchos videos cortos
que no tienen una hoja de trabajo que los apoye
o complemente. La duracin de los videos cambia
desde 10 segundos el ms corto, hasta casi dos
minutos para el ms largo. El tiempo total de los

para Jvenes Hispanos, gua al instructor en
la presentacin de los materiales curriculares.
Incluye fotos de los videos cortos, una copia
impresa del libreto del video en Ingls y en
Espaol, y ttulos de las hojas de trabajo para que
se usen con algn tpico en particular. Tambin se
incluyen partes de los videos con evaluaciones de
grado para ser utilizadas para evaluar cuanto han
aprendido sus estudiantes.
El segundo folleto, Hojas de Trabajo: Manejo
de Tractores y Maquinaria Segura para Jvenes
Hispanos contiene todas las hojas de trabajo, en
Ingls y en Espaol, preparadas para usarse en
ste programa. Por ejemplo, las hojas de trabajo
que tienen un video corto que las acompaa,
estn juntas y las hojas adicionales de trabajo se
encuentran agrupadas, despus de los captulos.
Las hojas de trabajo con videos cortos estn
identificadas en la Tabla de Contenidos cuando las
hojas de trabajo complementarias se identifican en el
Apndice A.

SUGGESTIONS FOR USING TASK SHEETS

AND VIDEO CLIPS
Here are some suggestions for using these materials to teach Hispanic youth about general farm
safety and tractor and machinery safety.
1. Become familiar with all the task sheets and
video clips before you organize your teaching
program. Know which complimentary task
sheets you will use, and how they fit with task
sheets and video clips. For example, several
complimentary task sheets are about tractor
safety and they could be used to support any
of your tractor safety instruction.
2. After showing a video clip, pause it so you have
time for discussion and to let students ask
questions about it.
3. If possible, have one or more tractor and/or
pieces of machinery available to use in your instruction. They can be used to support learning from the task sheets, video clips, or both.
4. You are encouraged to use the student activities from the task sheets as much as possible
to help your students learn the material.
5. There are 13 video clips which can be used to
help evaluate your students, either formally or
informally. The videos show students both safe
and unsafe scenarios and then pauses so that
you can ask them a question related to what
they just saw. The questions and correct answers are provided at the end of this manual.
You could do this as a verbal activity or have
students write answers on a piece of paper.
6. Students should know ahead of time any skills
they will be evaluated on, and have time to
practice these skills. A good way to let them
know about the skills evaluation is to either
give them a copy of the skills evaluation scoring page, or verbally review it with them. The
best way to let them practice is to have the
tractors and machines that you will use available ahead of time so that they can practice on
them.

SUGERENCIAS PARA USAR: HOJAS DE TRABAJO Y

VIDEOS CORTOS
A continuacin se detallan algunas sugerencias para
usar stos materiales para ensearles a los jvenes
Hispanos tanto aspectos generales de seguridad
agrcola como de seguridad con los tractores y la
maquinaria.
1.- Familiarizarse con todas las hojas de trabajo y los
videos cortos antes de organizar su programa
de capacitacin. Separar cules hojas de trabajo
complementarias podra usar, y cmo se usaran
estas entre las hojas de trabajo y los videos
cortos. Por ejemplo, muchas hojas de trabajo
complementarias son sobre seguridad con
los tractores, de manera que podran usarse
para apoyar cualquiera de las instrucciones de
seguridad con los tractores.
2.- Despus de mostrar un video corto, detngalo, as
usted tiene tiempo para discutir y dejar que los
estudiantes hagan preguntas acerca del video.
3.- Si es posible, tenga uno o ms tractores y/o
maquinaria disponible para usarla en su
capacitacin. Pueden usarse para apoyar el
aprendizaje de las hojas de trabajo, los videos
cortos, o ambos.
4.- Se le recomienda que use las actividades de los
estudiantes de las hojas de trabajo lo ms posible
para ayudarles a los estudiantes a comprender el
material.
5.- Hay 13 videos cortos que pueden usarse para
ayudarle a evaluar a sus estudiantes, tanto formal,
como informalmente. Los videos muestran a
los estudiantes dos posibles escenarios, seguros
o inseguros (correctos o incorrectos), seguidos
cada uno de una pausa, de manera que usted
puede hacerles preguntas relacionadas con lo
que acaban de ver. Se brindan las preguntas y
las respuestas correctas al final de ste manual.
Usted puede realizar esto como una actividad oral
o puede solicitar que los estudiantes escriban las
respuestas en una hoja de papel.
6.- Los estudiantes deben saber con suficiente

EVALUATIONS
Three evaluation documents are included to help
instructors gain feedback about their programs.
The first two documents, the PreOp Test Evaluation Form and the Driving Test Evaluation Form
are evaluations to be used with field testing of
students. These forms allow students to demonstrate their knowledge of checking tractors
before operating them and their skill at mounting,
starting, moving and stopping the tractor, and
dismounting the tractor. The third evaluation is
questions that evaluate how much your students
learned from participating in your program.
DISCLAIMER:
The material presented in this training course is
intended to assist persons in understanding basic
concepts of safe tractor and machinery operation.
This program is not intended to license or certify
any person, nor does the acknowledgment of
attendance or completion imply that the holder
of the attendance or completion certificate is a
skilled farm machinery operator. Some machine
safety devices were removed in the videos for
effective instruction. The Penn State Agricultural
Safety & Health Program does not endorse the
operation of farm machinery without all safety
devices in place.

EVALUACIONES
Se incluyen tres documentos de evaluacin para
ayudar a los instructores a recibir sugerencias
acerca de sus programas. Los primeros dos
documentos, el Formulario de Evaluacin del
Exmen de PreOp y el Formulario de Evaluacin
del Exmen de Manejo, son evaluaciones para
usarse en pruebas de campo con los estudiantes.
Estos formularios le permiten al estudiante
demostrar su conocimiento de revisar los
tractores antes de manejarlos (operarlos) y sus
habilidades al subir, iniciar y mover el tractor,
y bajarse del tractor. La tercera evaluacin, son
preguntas para evaluar cunto aprendieron sus
estudiantes por participar en su programa.
RESPONSABILIDAD LEGAL
El material presentado en este curso de capacitacin tiene la intencin de ayudar a las personas
a entender los conceptos bsicos del manejooperacin segura de tractores y maquinaria. Este
programa no tiene la intencin de licenciar o
certificar a ninguna persona, tampoco implica,
que el conocimiento de participar o completar
el curso certifique que es un hbil operador de
maquinaria. Algunos artefactos de seguridad
de la maquinaria, fueron removidos durante la
filmacin de los videos, con propsitos educativos. El Programa de Seguridad y Salud Agrcola
de Penn State, no promueve el manejo-operacin
de maquinaria agrcola sin todos los artefactos de
seguridad en su lugar.

SECTION I:
SAFE CLOTHING

Safe Clothing & Farm Work

When a person goes to work, they should dress

for the work they will do. Some workplaces have
dress codes. Think about your safety as you dress
for work.
The latest fashions or stylish clothes will not make
you a better worker. Dressing safely will make
you a smarter worker because it increases your
chances of avoiding injury or death on the job.
Know what each job you perform requires and
dress accordingly. During the summer, mowing
fields or baling hay may mean several hours in
the sun. Over exposure to the sun is a serious
hazard for young workers. A long-sleeved shirt, a
hat that protects the ears and neck, and sun block
are all part of safe dressing.

VESTIMENTA SEGURA

Vestir Seguro en el Trabajo Agrcola

Cuando una persona va al trabajo, debera de

vestirse para el trabajo que va a realizar. Algunos
lugares de trabajo tienen sus cdigos de vestir.
Piense en su seguridad cuando se viste para el
trabajo.
La ropa de ltima moda o de estilistas, no le van
a hacer un mejor trabajador. Vestirse con seguridad, le hace un trabajador ms inteligente porque
usted aumenta las oportunidades de evitar una
herida o la muerte en el trabajo.
Sepa lo que cada uno de sus trabajos requiere y
vstase de acuerdo con eso. Durante el verano,
cortando el pasto o empacando heno, tal vez
signifique estar varias horas al sol. Sobre-exponerse al sol es un peligro serio para los jvenes
trabajadores. Una camisa de manga larga, un
sombrero que proteja las orejas y el cuello, y un
bloqueador de sol son parte de una vestimenta
segura.

Hazards for Using Inappropriate Clothing

Around Machinery

Torn or loose clothing with threads or long tie

strings may expose you to a number of dangers
around operating agricultural machinery. Loose
or baggy shirts can become hooked or caught on
tractors or machine components as you mount,
dismount or move around the machines.
When you are working near the moving parts of
machines, clothes can be caught by unguarded
rotating parts and can pull you into the machine
before you have time to react. Most serious injuries involving PTOs occur because of loose clothing, long shoe laces, or tie strings from jackets and
sweatshirts.
Long hair, on both girls and boys, has gotten
caught in machinery resulting in the person being
scalped or even killed. Keep hair tied up or under
a hat to keep it from being caught in a machine.
A safe worker around agricultural machinery
wears close fitting trousers and shirts, work boots
with a heel and shoelaces tucked in, and hair tied
up or kept under a hat.

Peligros por Usar Ropa Inadecuada con la

Las camisas sueltas o anchas, le exponen a numerosos peligros trabajando cerca de la maquinaria
agrcola. Estas y la ropa rasgada o con hebras o
cordeles largos pueden ser enganchados o agarrados en los tractores o en los componentes de
la maquinaria, cuando usted se sube, se baja o se
mueve alrededor de las mquinas.
Cuando usted est trabajando cerca de partes que
giran en las mquinas, la ropa puede ser agarrada

Safe Clothing Around Chemicals

When working around chemicals it is very important to read the product label to know clearly the
precautions or protections that you should use.
Never wear short pants or sandals!
It is against federal regulations for youth under
the age of 16 to work with any pesticide that has
a DANGER or WARNING label, but is O.K. to work
with chemicals that have a CAUTION label.
Some chemicals with a CAUTION LABEL can hurt
you if there is too much contact with your skin
or your eyes. To protect against this, wear long
sleeves, chemical resistant gloves, chemical safety
goggles, a hat, and a respirator specified on the
label.

Vestir Seguro con los Qumicos

Cuando se trabaja alrededor de los qumicos, es

muy importante leer la etiqueta del producto,
para saber con claridad las precauciones o protecciones que usted debe tomar. Jams lo haga con
pantaln corto o sandalias!
Es en contra de las regulaciones federales que
jvenes menores de 16 aos trabajen con ningn
pesticida que tenga etiqueta de PELIGRO o ADVERTENCIA, pero s con las que tienen etiqueta de
PRECAUCION.
Algunos qumicos con ETIQUETA DE PRECAUCION
pueden hacerle dao si hay mucho contacto con
su piel o sus ojos. La mejor forma de protegerse
contra esto es, usando mangas largas, guantes
resistentes a los qumicos, gafas de seguridad para
qumicos, sombrero o casco y el respirador que se
especifique en la etiqueta.

SECTION II:
PERSONAL PROTECTIVE DEVICES

Noise and Hearing Protection

Farm equipment can generate high noise levels.

High sound levels pose serious health risks to the
people who work long hours around this equipment. Hearing damage seldom occurs with one
loud noise but it does result from exposure to
loud noises over an extended period of time.
All sound is measured in decibels but not all sound
levels are a hazard. Sound levels that cause hearing loss begin at about 85 dB(A) Reducing high
noise levels is the best way to prevent hearing
loss. This can be done by using a sound proofing
barrier between the ear and the source of the
noise.
Wearing ear muffs or ear plugs is another way to
reduce sound level at the ear. He is not wearing it
properly, because half of his ear is uncovered. Ear
plugs insert into the ear and provide an alternative to wearing ear muffs.
Ear muffs cover the ear and ear canal to provide a
barrier to sound. They do not block out all tractor
sounds, therefore, conversation for information
and safety purposes is readily heard.
Sound-proof tractor cabs are another way to reduce noise levels of tractor engines.

ruido. Los altos niveles de sonido representan un
serio riesgo para la salud de las personas que trabajan muchas horas alrededor de ste equipo. El

ruidoso, pero resulta de exponerse a sonidos ruidosos por un prolongado perodo de tiempo.
Todos los sonidos se miden en decibeles, pero no
todos los niveles de sonido son peligrosos. Los
niveles de sonido que hacen perder la audicin
empiezan cerca de los 85 dB (A). Reducir los altos
niveles de sonido es la mejor forma de prevenir la
prdida de audicin y se pueden reducir, usando
una barrera protectora de sonido entre el odo y la
fuente del sonido.
Usar tapones u orejeras es otra forma de reducirle
niveles de sonido al odo. Aqu no los est usando

Foot Protection

Using the wrong type of shoes may expose you

to a number of dangers in agricultural work. If
you work closely with animals you should protect
your feet and toes from being crushed by wearing
sturdy boots with good slip-resistant treads and a
steel-toe.

Usar los zapatos inadecuados le exponen a numerosos peligros en el trabajo agrcola. Si usted trabaja muy cerca de los animales, debera de proteger
sus pies y dedos de ser aplastados, usando botas
fuertes con buena suela resistente a resbaladas y

They also protect your toes against being punctured with a pitchfork when cleaning a barn.
When working with animals in areas of manure or
mud, it is important to use rubber boots that can
be washed or removed before you go into other
areas of the farm.

Incluso le protegen de punzarse con un azadn los

dedos, cuando limpia una bodega.
Cuando se trabaja con los animales en reas de
estircol o fango (lodo), es muy importante usar
botas plsticas que puedan lavarse o removerse

Respiratory Protection

Farm work may involve hazardous dusts and

vapors that are harmful to breathe. The way to
protect your self is with the correct type of respirator. When working at jobs like sweeping floors
or cleaning out grain bins or hay mows, considerable dust may be generated. Dust in old grain bins
and hay mows may be especially dangerous. Wear
an approved dust mask when working in dirty and
dusty work areas.

An approved dust mask will always have two

straps or a head band. Make sure that the mask
fits snugly around your mouth and nose.
The other type of respirator is a chemical cartridge
respirator. This is the type of respirator to use to
protect against vapors from pesticides, paints, adhesives, and solvents. The chemical cartridge respirator has replaceable filters to trap the vapors.
Each time you put on a chemical cartridge respirator, perform a fit check to make sure it fits you
correctly. A properly fitted respirator will make an
air-tight seal around your mouth and nose but still
allow you to breathe.

Use una mascarilla de polvo aprobada, cuando

trabaje en reas muy sucias y polvorientas.
Una mascarilla de polvo aprobada tendr siempre dos tiras(cintas) o una banda en la cabeza.
Asegrese de que la mscara le queda debidamente ajustada alrededor de su boca y nariz.
El otro tipo de respirador es un respirador qumico
de cartucho. Este es el tipo de respirador, que se
usa para protegerse de los vapores o gases de los

against sparks and splashing liquids, but do not
protect against metal projectiles. Therefore always
wear industrial safety glasses beneath the face
shield.

Introduction

Common agricultural machinery hazards are discussed in groups, so that you can understand the
hazard no matter what kind of machine you are
using.

Pinch Point

A pinch point is formed when two machine parts

move together and at least one of the parts
moves in a circle. Avoid these pinch points by
keeping machine guards in place.

Wrap Point

Any type of rotating machine component can be

considered a wrap point. The power take-off (PTO)
is an example of a wrap point hazard. People can
be caught by loose clothing or long hair because
PTO shafts turn extremely fast and you can get
caught faster than you can react. Wear snug fitting
clothes and tie up long hair. Keep the guards and
shields of rotating parts in place.

Shear Point

This occurs when the edges of two machine parts

move across or close enough to each other to cut
a relatively soft material. Hedge trimmers are a
good example of a shear point hazard.

Burn Point

Machine inspection, servicing, and maintenance

are the most common types of activities that may
result in exposure to a burn point hazard.
To avoid being burned, do not touch the hot
engine or machine parts you are inspecting. Place
your hand near the surface of the part to determine if heating has occurred. Wear leather gloves
to protect your hands against hot engine parts.

Freewheeling Parts

When parts of a machine continue to move after

the power to the machine has been turned off,
they are called freewheeling parts. To avoid injury
from freewheeling parts, stop the tractor engine,
disengage the PTO, and wait for the machine to
stop completely before making repairs or adjustments.

son: Inspeccin, revisin y mantenimiento de las
mquinas.
Para evitar ser quemado, no toque el motor o

Stored Energy

Stored energy hazards occur when energy that is

confined is released unexpectedly. This hazard is
present in pressurized systems and their components. Examples include springs under tension,
hydraulic hoses, pneumatic (air) systems, and
electrical systems.

cuando se libera la energa sin advertencia. Este

Thrown Objects

These hazards occur as normal machine operations discharge materials into the surrounding environment. To avoid injury from thrown objects,
be sure the machine is at a complete stop before
nearing the discharge area. Keep the work area
clear of bystanders. Wear eye protection when
working around this type of hazard.

Fuel

Check the fuel level before leaving the barnyard or

shop area. You cannot assume that someone else
has done this job. Failure to check the fuel level
may result in lost field time. Or it may result in the
need to mechanically bleed air from diesel fuel
lines in some older tractors.
Be sure you do not fill diesel fuel tanks with gasoline and vice versa.

Combustible

Revise los niveles de combustible antes de salir

del granero o el rea de taller. Ud. No puede
asumir que alguien ms hizo este trabajo. Fallar en chequear el nivel del combustible puede
causar atrasos o demoras en el campo de trabajo.
O puede resultar en la necesidad de bombear aire
desde las terminales de combustible diesel de
algunos tractores viejos.
Asegrese de no llenar tanques de combustible

Oil

Oil bathes metal surfaces to prevent friction heat

from damaging moving engine parts. Low engine
oil allows the engine parts to overheat, expands
them, and seizes the engine. Overfilling the
engine oil will result in oil seal damage.
Use the oil dipstick daily to check de oil level.

Aceite

El aceite baa o cubre las superficies de metal

para prevenir los daos del calentamiento por la
friccin de las partes en movimiento del motor.
Bajos niveles de aceite hacen que las partes del
motor se sobrecalienten, se expandan y fundan

Coolant

Coolant fluid (water and antifreeze) carries engine

heat away from the engine. Air flowing across the
radiator then reduces the coolant temperature. A
lack of coolant causes overheating of the engine.
Water used as a coolant by itself will cause rust in
the water pump.
Check coolant levels while the engine is cold to
prevent severe scalds.

El lquido anti-refrigerante (agua y anti-congelante) quita o nivela el calor de la mquina. El aire

que circula dentro del radiador, reduce la temperatura de enfriamiento. La ausencia de anti-refrigerante causa el recalentamiento de la mquina.
Usar agua como anti-refrigerante por s solo
puede causar herrumbre en la bomba de agua.
Revise los niveles de anti-refrigerante cuando
la mquina est fra para prevenir quemaduras
serias.

Air Filters

The engines of tractors are exposed to dust and

chaff that can block the air cleaner and cause the
engine and tractor to lose power. The air cleaner
should be checked and cleaned regularly. This will
decrease the risk of overheating and seizing of the
engine. Only check the air filter when the tractor
engine is turned off.

Anti-Refrigerante

Filtros de Aire

a polvo y pajas que pueden bloquear el filtro de
aire, causando que el motor y el tractor pierdan

Tires

Damaged rims from careless use may cause

damaged tire beads and flat tires.
A leaking valve stem can release calcium solution
which can cause the rim to rust and result in a
major expense. Check tire pressure, rims and
valve stems regularly.

Las llantas desgastadas o con rajaduras dan mala

traccin y el riesgo de atrasarse en el trabajo con

Lighting and Marking

Highway transport of farm equipment requires

lighting and marking. Older equipment must meet
these requirements as well. The requirements are:
Slow moving speed shown by SMV emblem
Extremities defined by side marker lights or
decals
Ability to warn of turns by recognizable signals
If the tractor and equipment or self-propelled
equipment does not meet these requirements,
the operator increases the risk of injury to him
or himself and the public and an escort vehicle
should be used.

El equipo viejo tambin debe cumplir con los

Protects the operator from the PTO stub. It is often damaged or removed and never replaced. This
causes countless injuries and deaths each year in
agriculture.

Hydraulic Connections & Covers

not all liquids are used for hydraulic work.

Pulling Tractor Forward and Backing Up

With clutch pushed in (if equipped), start tractor, idle down
throttle
Select slow/low forward gear.
Slowly and smoothly drive tractor forward to within a few inches
of cones.
Stop tractor.
Push clutch in (if equipped), idle down throttle
Select slow/low reverse gear.
Slowly and smoothly back tractor to within a few inches of
cones.
Stop tractor, shift to neutral and set brakes or place in PARK,
reduce throttle (if moved from start-up), shut tractor off,
unbuckle seat belt.
