Received assignment; went through it in class.

Began searching for an experiment that I wanted to conduct. I
made a list of experiments that I did want to do. My number one
experiment was a reaction time experiment relating with traffic
lights.
Asked Mr Thomas about the experiment; he advised against it
due to many variables that couldnt be controlled to have valid
results. I went to my second choice: crystallisation Does sugar
or salt crystallise faster in a supersaturated solution?
Put together my Part A for submitting. I did my research and put
together my Research element for the Weebly page. I was
surprised to see that all the experiment results that I checked said
that salt crystallises faster than sugar. That means that my
hypothesis is theoretically incorrect. I had a hard time creating my
scientific diagram, as I was unsure how to draw a clothes peg
scientifically.
Part A was handed in for marking.
Part A was handed back. Went home and edited my hypothesis
as that was the one thing that costed me a mark, but I kept it the
same (sugar crystallises faster than salt). Collected materials
needed to do experiment.
I conducted my experiment today! I was very surprised to find
that my previous research was an understatement I only added
in cup of salt in the boiling water before the salt began
collecting at the bottom. For sugar, I used 2 cups before it
began collecting at the bottom. I also came across an issue: for
the salt supersaturated solution, I accidently put in three drops of
food colouring, meaning that it was over concentrated that I
couldnt see the skewer without a light in the background. I
should have been more careful. Photographs taken for results, as
the crystal growth cannot be accurately measured with limited
equipment.
The sugar supersaturated solution hasnt formed any crystals
while the salt supersaturated solution has formed some. My
hypothesis was incorrect. Issue: due to over concentrated food
colouring, taking photographs of the crystals was very difficult.
The sugar crystals still havent formed! Salt crystals seem to be
thriving. Ive been taking some pictures, Im and glad to see the
progress in the salt solution.
The salt supersaturated solution is going amazingly. There are
more crystals forming at the bottom of the glass than on the
wooden skewer, but the growth is fast. Sugar solution is yet to
show results. Research says that sugar crystals can take up to a
week to form and humid weather slows down evaporation.

Salt crystals are thriving and Im observing salt crystals forming

on top of each other now! The crystals are also larger than the
ones that I used to create the solutions. Observation: the
overconcentration of the food colouring is less now. The solution
doesnt seem to have as much red in it as before. Crystals are
white though. Sugar has no progress yet. Both have evaporated
approximately the same amount.
Here the colour concentration decreases
from blue to green in the solution.

Finally some very fine sugar crystals growing on the surface. The
salt solution seems to be moving up the skewer now. I think the
cooler weather is making the crystals form faster, as the past few
days have been cooler.
The sugar crystals are covering half of the surface and the crystal
size is much larger than the salt crystals. They arent forming on
the skewer yet. Salt solution is showing some odd signs of crystal
growth above solution on the skewer. Odd.
The sugar crystals are covering the entire surface, and they are
very large. The salt crystal growth seems to be slowing down now
and there are more crystals forming above the solution.

The sugar crystals are growing very fast now and there are tiny
crystals on the bottom of the glass too. The salt solution is
definitely forming crystals above the solution the real crystals
that are stable. The crystals below the solution fall of easily and
hold no colour, while the ones above are rock solid and a light red
colour. The sides of the glass also has salt crystals growing
crystals oddly.
The sugar crystals have glued the skewer to both the bottom the
glass and the sides, due to its rapid growth. First sugar crystal
observed on the wooden skewer. Salt growth above solution on
the skewer has increased overnight, and how is very large and
thick.
Creating the Weebly page following writing my conclusion,
discussion and results. Due to limited equipment, my results have
to be images only
