RANKINE CYCLE

Reheat Rankine Cycle

Reheat Rankine cycle

Exercises. Compare the efficiency of the

two models Rankine cycle.
1. Determine the efficiency and power output of a basic
Rankine cycle using steam as the working fluid in which
the condenser pressure is 80 kPa. The boiler pressure is 3
MPa. The steam leaves the boiler as saturated vapor. The
mass rate of steam flow is 1 kg/s.
The answers are: =24.61%, Wdotpump=-3.07 kW, Qdot boiler=2409
kW, Wdotturbine=595.7 kW, Qdot condenser=-1816 kW, and Net power
output=592.7 kW.

2. Determine the efficiency and power output of a reheat

Rankine cycle using steam as the working fluid in which
the condenser pressure is 80 kPa. The boiler pressure is 3
MPa. The steam leaves the boiler at 400C. The mass flow
rate of steam is 1 kg/s. The pump efficiency is 85% and the
turbine efficiency is 88%. After expansion in the highpressure turbine to 800 kPa, the steam is reheated to
400C and then expanded in the low-pressure turbine to
the condenser.
The answers are =24.57% and Net power output=779.9 kW.
