For one of the articles you've chosen in the literature review

for your project, answer the following questions. 1. Why was

this study done? (What is its link to past findings?) 2. For
whom was the article written? Did the author use simple
language? Scientific language? A particular jargon or
specialized terms? 3. Bias or standpoint of the author in
relation to his theme. Does the author have a particular axe
to grind, point to make, or something to sell (even if it is an
idea)? 4. What were the authors results and conclusions?
Summarize the results in one or two sentences. 5. So what?
Why is this finding important? Where does it fit in the
existing literature?
1. This study was done based on prior research that showed that
family experiences like parental divorce and parental monitoring
play an important role in adolescent relationships. The authors of
this study wanted to know how these types of family experiences
affect adolescents romantic relationships.
2. This article was written for the readers of the Journal of Divorce
and Remarriage. The authors do not use any scientific language
or specialized terms. The article is written in such a way that
everyday people can understand.
3. There may be some bias since the authors are adults and the
article is about adolescent behavior. There may also be bias if
the authors have divorced parents, but this is not known. The
authors want to make the point that divorce does affect
adolescents romantic relationships.
4. This study found that adolescents from divorced families dated
more and were more susceptible to romantic influence compared
to adolescents whose parents were not divorced. The quality of
the romantic relationships between adolescents with divorced
parents and adolescents with intact families did not differ. In both
groups, males were found to be at a higher dating stage than
females.
5. These findings are important because much of the existing
findings state that divorce affects children and adolescents
behavior, and this article gives a specific example to as to what
kind of behavior is affected. Psychologists use these types of
finding to help explain childrens behavior and to help them
counsel or treat children for any sort of behavior or emotional
problem they may have from their parents divorce.
