Prerequisites:
We have been talking about community workers for about a week now.
Instructional Objective:
Students will be able to plan for a blog entry by developing their own graphic organizer.
Students will be able to draft and publish a blog entry about community helpers
Students will be able to critique and comment on other students blogs.
Instructional Procedures:
BEFORE:
Explain to students that we will be blogging an informational piece on community
workers today. Begin by modeling a graphic organizer. Students will be required to
choose a community worker as their topic, 3 details about how the community worker
helps our community, and a conclusion (Firefighters are amazing!). Model your own
graphic organizer and then have students do their own. When finished, allow students to
draw 3 pictures to go with their 3 details about the community workers.
DURING:
Students go off on their own to a computer or on their own device to begin their blog post
about how their community worker helps our community. Students go to
www.kidblog.com , enter their username and password which brings them to our class
site where they will begin their blog. When writing their blogs students will use their
graphic organizers to guide their blog where they will form complete sentences. Students
will you use at most 5 sentences in their blogs. Students will save their blog as a draft for
now.
AFTER:
When finished, students will view each others blog posts and make comments about what
revisions they could make (capital letters, periods, lower case letters, incorrect spelling
etc). Students will revise their blog posts and then publish them on our class page.

I also plan to implement a class twitter and a class blog into my classroom. Through these social
media sites I hope to collaborate with other classes around the world. Students will be able to
post and share what they are working on throughout the day on our class twitter and blog. I will
keep the class twitter page up all day for us to look at and post on. I hope to update the class
blog at the end of the week or day in order to talk about what we have done for that week/day.
Parents, other teachers, other classrooms, and other educators will be able to view and tweet with
us all day long.
